Is it true, Aftermarket rims in the rear will make the rx8 slower?

Yea go put on 22inch chromies and feel the car slug.
I dont think few pounds more make a difference in car performance. The width of the rim would play a bit more of a roll however and the camber set up.
if you are really worried about few extra pounds on the car, then lose some weight and it then balances..

If you don't think a few lbs does, then you're not thinking correctly, or are speaking wo/experience. Camber also has nothing to do with this.
We're talking about rotational mass, not just the few extra lbs weight on the whole car. Mass further out from the wheel center as in 19", 20" and also with heavy or heavier than stock wheels..... OR wider wheels of any diameter but esp 18", 19", 20" bring extra mass to the rim and it all needs to be accelerated and braked therefore loading the engine down and robbing performance.
Losing personal weight is a good idea, but won't help THAT much

If weight was really a problem why bother buying the leather version which weighs more then the basic cloth pack? Why bother getting manual version when the automatic for you guys has 16inches.

The difference is the dish size on those. +35mm would have wider dish then the +45mm but with the +35mm you are getting closer fit . Stock is +50mm so +45mm would be quite similar. what size rims are you getting? That would also determine which offset is best.

my rims are 18x8.5 weighing 17lbs
they are rays gram light 57f's
look for forged one peice rims,
but honestly, for racing purposes, you might not want nice rims, since if you bend one it'll cost a fortune to replace
i'd suggest getting a cheap set of cast 17s for drift/race days,

someone posted that 1lb unsprung weight(ex: wheel weight) = 10lbs body weight. but what i remember from my shop teacher at SMC who's a former retired dragster emphasized that it was 8 body pounds. and 8 body pounds was what i remembered iirc.
and having the widest tires aren't the "best" in performance. there is actually so much you can go before performance is actually lost. "yes", actually lost.
care to elaborate? well... why are hybrids always running super narrow tires and wheels? and land speed record vehicles as well?
well... remember this, the C.O.D of a narrow tire is always going to be lower than a wider tire.
C.O.D also plays a huge role in your car's acceleration, grip and decel. a well inflated tire can improve accel and mpg. the lame approach of blindly guessing for improved performance by underinflating a tire at the track is the worst thing you can do. and if anyone here doubts my claim on this... to put this to the test in layman's terms: roll a overinflated basketball and see how far it goes. then try doing that underinflated or flat.
just thought i'd shed some light and add to spin9k's advice. and i'd personally rather put that extra inch for some wider 17s then get some 19's...

at least u admit it and KNOW it. and thats ur preference. i'd hate to have someone here denying the facts... then everyone who aren't automotive educated or at least mechanically inclined start spreading the word eventually turning everyone in the car forums stupid. and eventually every1 in the rx8 forum will get the biggest rims they can get their hands on and claiming that upgrade actually make the car faster..... those kind of people
