quote " MS-01MAG - Forged one piece magnesium wheel 18X8JJ. Recommended tire size is 225X45R18. Wheel weight is 7.3kg. Wheel is not compatible with the RX-8 TPMS sensor. Center Caps and installation kit QMS1-MA-G0P also required"

7.3kg is about the same as a forged aluminium volk in the same size and twice the price? why bother?

Yes,

lightweight forged aluminum wheels make a lot more sense than true magnesium.

An SSR comp that is the same size will be as light or even a little lighter than the wheel you mentioned.

The only other advantage of the magnesium wheel you specified is that it might have a higher load rating than the SSR (or Volk), but since the RX-8 is a fairly light car, load rating shouldn't be an issue.

I always thought the problem with magnesium was cracking and short life span. so the highter load rating seems strange to me but a volk dealer told me similar.

it also shows you should take weights you find on the net with a grain of salt. most internet sites reckon these wheels are 6kg in weight. somewhat like people who claim volks are so light and think because a 15" volk weighs 4kg a 16" or 18" weighs the same urban myths.
