I think you're right about the XR6, but I think the tyres were 245/40/18. Goodyears did very well in the dry, but were the best in the wet by a significant margin. Spoke to a guy in USA who tracks them nad he states that you have to pump up pressures to at least 36 otherwise you can chew out the outer edges of the tread.

Tyres are more than just a good tread. Carcass design is very important for handling. THe carcass keep rubber on the road, and compound of rubber helps with grip. Tread is basically to help dissipatewater in the wet. Lots of other Goodyear like treads in other brands, but they don't handle anywhere as good as the Goodyear.

Missy K, make sure you post some photos of the tyres on the car, and let us know how you go on Sunday.

Look what this dick wrote about the RE 040's...

"Not only are these the worst tires to drive in the snow, but the suck even while the car is parked. I parked my RX8 on my driveway (moderate downhill grade) with e-brake and in reverse. I later found my car in the lot behind my apartment 40 feet away from its orignal placement. Luckily, the tires are so bad the it slid perfectly straight and narrowly missed my apartment."
Hahahaha....yeah, the tyres are why it rolled down the driveway. Not the limp wristed effort by the driver to apply the handbrake....

I was also going to get Toyo T1R's. A friend of mine complained about his set of Toyo's on his 8 and said that they weren't even as good as the OEM Bridgestones.

I had a look into it and eventually went with Yokohama ADVAN Sport's. Incidentally it's the OEM tyre choice for the Bently Continental GT...

Anyway. Not sure if we get all the same brands as you here in South Africa, but the Yokohama's have been superb so far.

Doesn't Timbo have some sort of Yoko's, and doesn't like them? It all sounds like a personal preference thing.

With a pretty tread pattern like that, I'm sure you'll consider it money well spent.

First off, Gomez isn't quoting me. But actually, having tried to drive them through the winter, I can see that happening. That is if the sloop was steep enough. The OEM RE40's have no traction in the snow/ice. Forward, Backward or with Breaks applied. And with the handbreak applied, the 2 front wheels would roll.
