Im in process of buying new tyres, and Im getting a lot of mixed opinions and advice from various tyre shops. Course half the time they mainly promoting the tyres that they find to be most profitable, so I dont really know whether to trust and whether the tyre they want to sell me will actually benefit me.

So i'll list the various tyres that Ive been told, and Id love to hear what my fellow RX8'ers think of these tyre brands

1. Good Year F1 Eagles GSD3

2. Dunlop Sports Maxx

3. Toyo T1R

Size I'll be getting 245/40/R18 (I have aftermarket rims which are a bit wider)

Basically want a tyre that handles great on the dry and wet etc. Cost wise, I definately dont want to go cheap, and I cant justify going 2 pricey as I dont really drive the car as hard to begin with. So somewhere in between

Thnx in advance
MissyK:
I shopped around quite a bit. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in terms of a high-end tire, new wheels or not, staggered or not, etc. So I went for the best bargain I could find: 225-40-R18 on all four, Kumho Ecsta SPT, $85.00 apice at Tire Rack. This is not a novel suggestion, but it is a good tire, well outperforms the OEM Bridgestone, and I have very little invested. Bought myself time and got a very decent tire.

Also, read the sticky about staggering--a lot of info to make you think carefully. Unless you are a dragster.

Good luck,
JT

I had a look into it and eventually went with Yokohama ADVAN Sport's. Incidentally it's the OEM tyre choice for the Bently Continental GT...

Anyway. Not sure if we get all the same brands as you here in South Africa, but the Yokohama's have been superb so far.
oem bridgestone have been the best 4 me so far! got yokohama advans now, had toyo proxes already...

Yeah, I never had a prob with the stock bridgestones, Track or street. I think it is all driving style and preference. I have seen plenty of guys (won't name the ones on this board) who have way more expensive tires than me that run slower times than me.

I'm shopping for summer tires and it looks like i'm going with goodyear f1's. Im just debating on size, i'm leaning towards 245/40/18.
i just wanted to make sure that there are no rubbing issues with the 245 wider tire on all 4 wheels. Can anyone with this size tire assure me there are no issues? thanks
