Not everyone wants rims that are for bling. The fact he wants wide wheels indicates he wants performance.

I agree. I for one absolutely hate upsizing on wheels as it adds weight, but at least I know the reason people do it. I can't really say I understand the viewpoint, but I know what it is at least.
By the way, how wide depends on the offset of the wheel and whether you wish to roll the fenders or not. It seems most people are able to take a 9.5" wide wheel with 45mm offset. Anymore and we start hearing rubbing.

CE28Ns are ridiculously light. In the 18x8 size they're 14.7 pounds. However, the thread starter would have better luck with weight savings if he went with the 18s as the 17 inch CE28Ns are only a few ounces lighter and the tire choices for 18 inches is actually slightly lighter and so would balance things out. However, if he's not looking to keep about the same rolling diameter, then 17s would be the way to go.

17x9.5 +47 would be ideal and clear big brakes.

actually my 18 x 8.5 ce28's weigh in at a huge 13.7 lbs.......

17's you ask? Cheaper tires, lighter weight, shorter gears w/right tires
If you're going with 17's staticlag make sure you have some sort of drop. The oe ride height looks a bit high with 17" rims
edit: Besides r compound tires, if you'll be putting the rims to race applications where you wish to run v710's count the 17's out, the diameter is actually larger than 18's
