want to lower my 2009 rx8 r3

hey Guys, My name is Mike. i recently traded in my 07 speed3 for a new 09 rx8 r3, i absolutely love this car, once i drove it i was hooked, its my first rotary and everything is great about the car except i would really like to lower it down for over all looks but don't want to give any of my handling away as this car handles like a rat in a sewer pipe as it is, i am having a hard time getting any info on lowering springs for my car, i need help trying to figure out if the 09 r3 uses a different spring set up then the previous years, i am aware of the upgraded bilstein shocks and foam filled front suspension, but is the springs any different, most websites only show 03 -08, will 08 lowering springs work on my 09 r3? and i definitely don't like the looks of some lowering springs where the gap in the front is bigger then the gap in the rear( as far as space between wheels and fender), gives it that saggy *** end look. i really like the looks of tein s techs, or maybe was thinking about the tein basic coilover so i can adjust the height to whatever i think looks best and is most fuctional, anyways any info that i could get would be much appreciated, thanks

Hmmmm
I have the same suspension set up on my 08 40th AE (Bilstein stocks, Foam filled cross members)
I lowered mine with Tein S-Techs and love the ride
I don't know if the 04-08 setup is the same as the 09+, but I would make some phone calls and send out some emails.

My bet is that any springs will work with the R3

BTW- i think there is another person with an R3 that has lowered his ride (with pics). Do a search

I'm assuming you are not going too extreme. I would go with the Tein Basic Coilover. Great for the money and they do offer greatly improved handling over stock IMO. Great performance upgrade. When I had them, I could push through plenty of corners with no effort, lol. The lowering height they offer, makes the RX8 even more sexy! Springs are also a good setup for starters but IMO, I would try to match up an aftermarket shock with the springs. Tein Basic, height adjustable, can't adjust dampening, spring perch can be adjustable for preload.

Good luck with the decision

Hey RX8pwnage thanks for the pic, i think i am going to go with the tein s techs as well, how is the ride? it's not overly bouncy or anything? and did you pre load the springs? i have read other posts about pre loading the springs, i'm not even sure what that means to be honest. if you have any more pics of the full car side shot that would be cool to, i really want to make sure that these are the springs i want to get. thanks alot,

Preloading is just the process by which you put the car down a little bit (get some weight on the ground) before fully tightening all of your bolts.

The ride is fine. Just a bit stiffer than stock not bouncy at all. Yes, they were preloaded by loosening the A frame bolts then tightening them.
