What are YOUR recommendations & experiences with your setup?
Hello all...
So now that we're in a fragile economy of sorts, I managed to salvage a few bucks from Uncle Sam and received a pretty decent tax return. In celebration, I am looking for a new lowered look for my RX8.
I currently have the Tein H-Tech Springs...which are great. Probably because it compares close to the stock feel. What I don't like is that it looks like its almost stock. I need something that has more of a drop to it...especially the front. I also want something that I can easily adjust (if the recommendation are coilovers, that is).
What have you used and what did you like/dislike about them? I can read specs over and over again but my best research is based off of your reviews.

It continues to amaze me that folks will set up their cars based on looks.
I am not sure why it is so hard to allow form to follow function. 1) decide on what you want your car to do. 2) buy products that might get you there. 3) test 4) adjust 5) test 6) adjust...
IDK, maybe I am too out of the "scene."

Carbon RX8: I know what you're talking about. The only reason why I want my car for the looks is because its my weekend car. I have a daily stock commuter that I drive around...so I might as well make this one look nice. Something to drive around in that looks good, to cruise around. As you can tell, my engine is bone stock. I don't have that itch to be driving *****-to-the-wall.
I know most of you guys are hardcore functionality enthusiasts...which is why I am asking for suggestions. Its the experience that you guys have that will help me decide what I should be getting.

Dont get me wrong. A nice looking car is, well, nice. Paint is something I am looking at right now. But I am going to make sure that I get a good clear to resist chips and some 3M to cover the areas that are going to get blasted while running hard or on the track. A racing seat looks cool, right? But, it holds your *** in place so that you dont go sliding around on the sucky stock seats. Aftermarket rims? Go lightweight. Coilovers? Minimize roll with stiffer springs (but not eliminate it! You have to transfer weight) and lower COG, but if you increase the distance between roll center and COG your overlowered car rolls MORE!
To be honest, I am not aware of issues of overlowering on RX8s, but how many folks consider this, when slamming their cars?

The S-Techs will be a touch lower and stiffer. I've seen the S-Techs on Aipex8's car and it is sitting down nice. How much lower are you wanting to go? If you want "baller" flush then you will need to go with coilovers. If you want to close up the gap, firm up the ride and have a nice aggressive stance that is not over the top then the S-Techs will be a good fit.
Tein H-Tech lowers 1" Front .3" Rear
Tein S-Tech lowers 1.4" Front .7" Rear

i don't see why anyone would want to lower, its already soooo low. i say get new tires, but if you're set on a new set up, go with tein for lowering, and koni's for performance. the yellow series is amazing from reviews, and its a lot for b stock.
i have the 40th suspension, that might make me lower than the other stock 8's but shops have trouble getting their equipment under the car.
if you want a lower'd look, i say get 255/40 tire. killed half my wheel well gap. looks great.

Change the overall diameter of the tire and you change the speedo and how mileage is accumulated on the odometer. If you want to change the ride height then the proper way to do it is with springs/shocks or coilovers.

I am also looking for my ride to be slammed. I was thinking dropzone but i do not know if anyone have experience with them? 1.8 inch front and rear seems perfect for me. Or is the H&R springs the closest? i also heard it drops around 1.5~2.0 front and rear. The tein s tech looks stock to me i do not know haha.

I have used a few different suspensions:
Tein S-Techs on stock shocks: Drop looked good and evened the front to rear gap making the fender gaps even, which was important to me. The ride was nearly stock, but a little stiffer. Changed these because I wanted to go lower.
Changed to Megan Racing Coilovers: These gave me the drop and the handling I wanted. They were great when I was living in NC where the roads were mostly smooth. Moved back to CT and the roads here suck. It was just a bit too stiff for me being it has 12k front 10k rear springs. So I changed these to get back some comfort but keep the drop
Tein had a sale on their CS Coilovers and so I went with them. I think they changed the design on them so they were going for 50% off before the new ones arrived. Pretty nice considering they are normally 1500. I kept the ride height almost the same, comfort was up and I was very satisfied with these. The dampening was easily adjusted to be comfortably soft or pretty stiff. They were also EDFC compatible which I had planned to get eventually.
If I had to do it again, I would have kept the S-techs and bought Koni Yellows to go with them. They Konis will lower the car another 1/2 inch or so which would have given me the drop I wanted all along.
Since I traded in my 8 I will have the CS Coilovers for sale once I clean them up and take pictures. Just in case you or anyone else is interested in a good street coilover.

I have Ksport coilovers on my car and they are fully adjustable and give me the drop that I wanted. I have their version thats made for road racing so the ride is pretty stiff which bothers some people but I'm fine with it and I love the way it looks...
