wheel offset question

I am looking at a set of wheels, however I barely understand the concept of the offset. I dont know whether to go with the 43 offset or the 30. Maybe an explanation of what the effects of going with the lower offset might be? Any help would be nice.

What size?
18's?
19 ?
20?

what width?

for reference, the OEM wheels are 18 x 8. offset is +50

Look for the "will it fit" thread, they'll help walk you through what wheels will fit and what won't.

Wheels are MB Wheels Battle 18x8

Yeah I knew about the stock offset of 50. What happens (appearance wise) of going to a lower offset? 30 seems low doesnt it?

appearance wise it means that the centerline of the wheel is closer to the mount of the rims. A lower offset would bring the wheel's hub mount closer to the center line while a higer offset brings the mount closer to the outer lip of the wheel. If you can picture a wheel, if you get a lower / negative offset, the wheel would be moving outside of the wheel well, while a positive offset would make the wheels go in deeper.

Here are some info on the fitment we have tried on our RX8

18x9.0 +36mm offset running 245/40/18 , front rub, rear fine

19x8.5 +35mm running 235/35/19, no rub
19x9.5 +40mm running 265/30/19, no rub

18x8.5 +37mm / 18x9.5 +38mm, 245/40/18, 265/40/18, no rub.

When we design wheels for our customers, here are the questions we always ask first.

1. Are you willing to roll fenders ?

2. Coil over or Spring ?

3. stock camber arms ?

4. Last, BBK upgrade in the future ?

From then, we can determine how low of an offset or how flush we can make the wheels to fit your car.

At least I posted the thread, because this guy seems like too much of an idiot to search by himself for it...

I'm tired of spoon feeding. Lately I haven't been posting links rather just telling people what to search for or how to search as the links simply promote more laziness.

spoon feeding information does nothing from what i've seen on this forum - it only gets misinterpreted, recycled and then imposed on others...

My favorite is when you tell them to SEARCH - and they respond with "I DID SEARCH BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING"
