Where to get brake job done? Dealership??
My RX8 is at about 76k and I've noticed that my brakes are in need of replacement now. They dont squeak much if any at all, but when I am coming to a stop I do hear a grinding noise when i'm at about 5mph-0.
I'm hoping that I just need my brake pads replaced.
What replacements are normal with the mileage I have? With previous cars, every time I go to a shop like break check or just brakes I feel like they try to con you into a $500 brake job.
I was thinking about taking it into the dealer but what should I expect to pay? Is the dealer more expensive than those other shops? Has anyone else taken theirs into the dealer for this?
I'm hoping they only have to replace the pads and maybe turn the rotors. Btw, i'm looking to go OEM.... no need for aftermarket for me.
Thanks in advance...

I'll probably look into it at the dealer whenever I have time to drop it off... so how that goes.

My 2 cents...
Price out the parts online. (BOTH pads and rotors)
Look around you for recommended small shops.
Ask them the price of Labor Only to install your new pads and Rotors (% bleed the brakes).
They should probably charge you less than an hour of labor for the whole job.
I think you'll find the parts + labor much cheaper than going to a dealer or brake & muffler shop and getting the usual up-selling while they have your car trapped on the hoist: ("sir, your rotor runout is excessive, so you must get new rotors; they are $300 apiece").
G'luck.

the only draw back is that I really wanted to get it done by Monday or Tuesday at latest... before the grinding sound gets worst and I really F... up my brake system.

If time is a factor, try local auto-parts places (also ask the local shop you choose about parts - in these tougher times, to make a sale they might be willing to give you the parts at their cost).
I only suggest rotors because there is not a lot of material that can be taken off an OEM rotor, and the cost of getting rotors properly turned isn't much less than going new.
If the shop hasn't done an RX-8 before, you can tell them that the disks are separate from the bearing and come right off. (after they get that Damn assembly screw out....)
