Where to get decent pads?

OK...
I searched around for the answer, but I can't find it...

I'd like to know what some good pads are that I can find locally? Like Advance, AutoZone, O'Reilly, Carquest....

I'll probably get flamed for asking... but right now my wife does 90% of the driving in this car, so while I'd like to get some nice perfomance pads, it just won't be ecocomical.

Is there a certain brand that would work well and are easy to obtain from one of those listed stores?

Thanks guys!

oh wow, yeah - you'll probably get flammed for this...

best bet if you're looking for local help - check the region forums in your area. Ask some of the folks in there for some good local shops that can get you the good stuff.

Personally - my favorite brake pad for the 8 for around the town use is Hawk Ceramic pads. Very little noise and wayyyy less dust. You can order them from any automotive stores. Or if you want to contribute to some of the vendors at the top of the front page, they have some pretty good deals too some times...

hopefully this helps a little.

That sucks... oh well if I do get flamed... is this a common question? Because I read the FAQ's...
Flaming newbs is stupid... I spend a lot of time on forums, and there's no reason for it... If there's a better deal that I can get from a site sponsor, I'll do it... I just wanted to get it done this weekend is the only reason I ask....

Why don't you just get some oem pads? They're not bad at all.

I would also like to add my recommendation for Hawk Ceramics, they're working beautifully so far. Got mine from Works Concepts (forum vendor) but you could probably find a local vendor too.

A quick check on the retail auto stores you mentioned shows that Carquest offers Akebono OE replacement pads. Don't know how good they are personally, but Tirerack shows fairly good reviews on a somewhat-related Akebono ceramic brake product. Of course, they might not fit the RX-8 because the Carquest site doesn't show sizes. One final note on these though: Tirerack does offer the (I assume to be more performance-oriented) version of the Akebonos for the RX-8, so Akebono might very well manufacture the OE replacements in RX-8 sizes.

The OEM pads are good if you're not tracking the car. Whatever you end up with install the OEM shims with the new pads and lube the shims and pad BACK with high temp synthetic brake grease to keep them quiet.
