Who's fault?

I was told at my dealership to rotate my tires every other oil change or around 7k. Well I got 14k on it right now and went in for a rotation and they would not rotate the tires. Due to the rears being "scalloped" it would put the vibration in the steering. Sounds correct to me but when I asked why that happend he said cause I didn't rotate them enough!!!????? I told him I check the pressure constantly and rotate when told, service manager replies "well I tell everyone 3k now" I felt like saying cool when you ordering my new meats??? I baby the thing and haven't even laid down a patch once now I'm staring at 1g in the face for new tires, money I'll probably hold on too towards a speed6.

sorry to say, but its your own rsponsibility to have the tyres rotated.
it wont be covered under warranty, because it is one of those wear and tear items :o

I understand that, after my first rotation at 7k it was impossibly to tell if there was any uneven wear along with no nosie or vibration. After that first rotation I got that strange slaping sound out the rear. No car I have ever owned needed rotation after 3k, nor have I heard of folks on here rotating that often either. To me it was just another thing the dealer has done to rub me the wrong way. In my life I have never had tires last less than 25k let alone 14k, yet again the car is driven very easy, with proper inflation at all times. To this day they still look great I don't get it I know it's not the car but I'm REALLY looking forward to my appointment to drive a speed6 in two weeks.

so the rear tires on a RWD car wear faster than the fronts and so you are gonna get rid of it and get a speed 6 so all the tires can wear faster? Good call!

incorrect, they were the front that were put on the rear. Thats when I noticed the slapping noise. So actually the tires wore uneven while on the fronts For future refrence the tires that come on a speed 6 won't be near a tread wear rating of 5, also won't be nearly as aggressive. This will contribute to much longer tread life for a speed6 tires. Thanks for the smart *** remark though, really help address the issue at hand of me being a 8 owner and the service manager not knowing when to tell his customers to rotate there tires. I ask the question who's fault but I know it sure isn't mine but I know there's nothing I can do. I've read of similar things happening to 350's, either way 274hp and AWD in NH doesn't sound to shabby

As far as the smart *** remark did you think to check the owners manual? I hear they have LOTS of useful info in that little book!

Your right there is a ton of info in that little book. Although nothing about rotating your tires every 3k if there is no noticable wear or tire noise? Thanks for the intuitive information, I would have never thought to check in there!! Thanks! I owe you one.

You can get a set of new tires for the 8 as cheap as 500 bucks. And that's the 245/40

i always change my oil ever 3k miles in all cars, and I always rotate the tires when i do it. Only takes about 30 mins to rotate the tires on a car....simple insurance. I also rotate the tires after a track day.

I follow my own matinence schedual for everything, and there serviced items always get serviced long before the 'book' recomends them...i plan to keep my car in tip top shape for a long time.

As far as the MS6, what tires is it supposed to come with? I would be pissed if they stuck some all-weather hard tire on there......you want a nice sticky tire for a AWD sports car like that. and where do you see a treat wear of 5? I thought the bridgestones were like a 180 tread ware and the dunlops were like 2xx.

scalloping...that's a first. i've always heard cupping. ANYWAYS...you really can't help the cupping issue since the OEM tires are junk, the TPMS throws the balance off, and most people don't check their tire pressures often enough. any sort of tire wear is going to be customer pay...not warranty.

"scallopin" my old man used it..made sense to me, but what chaps my *** is that I check the pressure once a week, did exactly what the service manager advised and because of his advice I am out a set of tires. I certainly know Mazda would never pay, but I feel the dealership should work with me. If I was told rotate them every 3k...done no issue, to rotate them just cause I'm there gettin an oil change makes no sense to me it's totally insane to have to do that if thats truely the case. Also EVERY DAMN time I went there they dropped my PSI to 29! EVEN when I told them keep it at 35. I can say one thing I would never buy another car from there again. I'm glad there not a MazdaSpeed Dealer I know I'm ranting but it just seems really crazy to me, I guess it's just another "quirk" of the 8 I could live without.

That sure sounds like abnormal/unusual wear that would be the result of poor alignment. Have it checked right away when you get new tires. The dealer should have noticed the tire's condition earlier and advised that you get a free alignment.

im pretty sure the manual says to keep the tire pressure at 32psi
and my dealership told me rotate every 5000k and another service guy told me 8k ::shrugs:: as long as you rotate them at the same interval i think it wouldnt really matter.

FWIW -- I have rotated my tires with every oil change. ~3K miles. Everytime I do it, the tire noise of the S-03s increases. My point is that the OEM tires are noisy as hell by nature. I can't wait for my next track day to end, winter to come so I can put my Dunlap M3 winter tires on. They are a dream to drive and 'listen' to.

IMHO - while I doubt you have much leverage on this, do what you can with the dealer in terms of arguing your case for following the service manager's advice. You have nothing to loose. Don't bother arguing with the forum. You are just getting other's opinion. Take them for that.

Man going from an 8 to a speed6 would be a horribly painful experience. The speed 6 weighs about 700 lbs more then an rx8. Might as well just fill up your car with 5 friends now to get the effect.

And rotating your tires? Come on man...buy a jack and some stands...they go on sale on the time.

Its funny to read Mazda groupies rant and rave about the 8 and the MS6. I'm a Mazda fan through and through. If you want the MS6, go for it! I think it looks like an awesome car! You'll love the AWD (coming from a Suby owner). However...if you bought the 8 for the same reason a lot of us did...sports car reasons...I think you will miss it. Consider a lesson learned on the tires. Check and rotate your tires all the time, even then any car can have a problem. Maybe watch out for those curbs!

Thanks for the advice I wasn't going to go freak out on them I know that wouldn't get anything done, and I'm not looking for them to get me a set of Pilot PS2's but maybe help me out a tad??? To be honest it a mute point I'm buying a house(getting an Irish Setter) and taking a new job. With the winter's around here and the fact I'm going to be puttting many more miles on than 10k the Speed6 AWD looks damn good. I'm not looking for STI speed, but hopefully it will be nice and tight without being too much a Touring Sedan like a Legacy GT. Great car but very boat like to me. My 8 means A LOT to me I worked hard for it and it repays me with a great driving expirence but my needs are changin and unfortantly I don't think my dog and I can fit. The tire thing kinda just made the move a little easier. Rotating the tires myself? NO WAY the car should not require that kind of maintance, I don't care if it takes 3 minutes it's the point, not time or money. My old mans got a C32 AMG benz with more miles and MUCH more power, his tires after 18k look brand new???? He's rotated them every 7k each car is diffrent but such a light car driven like a baby I find it unexcusable.

No No guys, its not the TPMS or the "shitty tires" it is the factory allignment!

My rear suspension is stock and it had -1.7 degrees of camber. I have had bad cupping on my factory and aftermarket tires even with regular rotation.

I've had my aftermarket staggered set-up and you can really see cupping on the inside rears until I recently got a new set.

NTB maxed out the adjustment and it was still -.7 degrees. That will slow things down but I will still get some cupping.

-Mr. Wigggles

Ps. attached is my before and after allignment report from NTB. Please note my vehicle has never been in an accident nor have I ever hit a curb etc.

I have learned from experience if you want to know the facts ,do the research yourself. I researched tires for my 8 for about 3 weeks because most tire shops in my area do not know diddly about the product they are selling. I called several tire manufacturers and talked to the tire techs. The most knowledgable and honest person was at Cooper tire and rubber co. The biggest bullshitter was at Nitto tire. Only got to talk to answering machines at Falken......and the list goes on. I eventually found my way to Tire rack.com and talked to Chad. He said one of the biggest mistakes people make with these types of tires is not rotating often enough and correct tire pressure. I ended up ordering the Avon tech M550 A/S. The man said I would love those tires after putting up with the uneven wear and noise of the potenza's.

update. Well the Avon tires cupped on the inside rears .They were rotated at 2500 mile intervals. The noise drove me crazy.I bought a set of conti contact patch. Had the car aligned at a local tire shop. It was way out from the alignment that mazda did for me. I have 20k on these tires and they are wearing great and they are sooo quite!.

hahahahahaha so tru man,hes gonna be double pissed!

every speed6 i see has all four worn the hell out at 10k and hes mad bc two of em are jacked at 14k? hahahahaha

i rotated mine every 1k and those bad boys were worn out at 8k....then put on the dunlops, wore those out in another 13k, put on rt 615s and they are wonr out 6k after that....im at like 28k and i need a 4th set of tires...

take this hint bro, sporty summer tires wear fast, so u need to rotate them sooner and more often than the hard as rock tires ur used to driving on on ur camry.

sorry to hear u wasted 900 bucks in tires but dont go writtin letters to mazda bc they sports car tires wore out bc YOU didnt rotate em!

hahahahahahha!
