you take the car to a smash repair place/tyre shop and they ether use a machine that has a roller on the guard and pivots from the wheel hub to slowly roll round the inner guard pressing it up out of the way; or they can cut the inner horizontal lip of the guard and trim it so it dosn't extend into the wheel well so far; or they can butcher the guard and bend it with plyers and crack the paint

my advice is if you need it done go to a place that has done a good job for someone you know.

oh, so when you say guards, youre not necessarily talking about the lining in the wheel well, you mean they could actually bulge out the fenders? the body piece?
otherwise, i understand. its kinda what i thought, i just didnt know how its done...

if i get 19x9 fron and back, i shouldnt need the rolling job thingy?
or should i play it more safe with 19x8 or 19x8.5?

19x8.5 front to rear with 245/35-19s is the widest you should go... Anything wider up front will really mess-up the steering...

I tried on 9" wide rims today and on the front and you can use 9" if you have a +42 or higher offset.
if you had a +50 offset it would be perfect

did you drive with them on? if so, how did it feel?
if too wide up front will "really mess-up the steering" then it seems that something slightly less, but within that limit will still drive differently. i would like to get more traction with the bigger wheel, fill in the wheel well a bit more, but not sacrifice too much of the nimble feeling of the current handling.

The best compromise is to go with the 8.5 front to rear and the 245s if you want to keep the feel similar to stock... There is a reason MS went with an 8" even on their car...

ok. i think thats exactly what i was getting at. and the 245s will have the same circumference so i dont have to recalibrate the odometer? (or just read wrong)

atom: Also try to keep the offset between 50-45 this will best preserve the geometry of the suspension...

unfortunatly I didn't get to drive with them on. The most important factor in handling is the wheels offset and keeping it as close to standard as possible.
if you do stick to 50+ then there is next to no difference between running a 8.5" or 9" width. the difference between a std 8" 50+ and a 9" 50+ is 1/2 " each side of the std rim (pull out a tape measure and see how little it is). people run 245/40/18 on the std rims so using them on the wider 9" will make little difference and if anything improve the performance.

Ok people... i need help..... within this week i am going to get volk sf challenge.... I am planning to tweak my engine to get most hp available.... and i am also goin to get HKS coilovers in the future.... I have in mind 19 in rims with 9 in the front and 10 in the back.... both with offsets of around +50..... I need to know the tire size for the front wheels... and i also need to know... if i get offsets of +50 for the rear 10 .... will i get rubbing issues???? i have searched on the forum but i still cant find anything.... please help... i really want to the the 10 in. in the rear....
