+1 but unless you plan on being slammed/adding spacers the 255/40 is my opinion, unless you like the thinner tire look. It will keep your car a little bit higher off the ground (same as stock), not mess up the speedo reading, and protect the rims a little better from potholes.

Don't know much about this topic, though I did try doing some research.
Tires: 245/45-17
17x8 +48
How would it compare to 17x7.5 +45

It will fit with inches to spare. http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp That site will tell you how much farther out your wheel will sit/how the clearance between the shock and wheel changes.

Ok, so if I do the 17"x9"F/17"x10"R w/ a 225's up front and 245's out back, what would be a good offset to run considering I want it flush? (actually i'd like a bit of poke + some very aggressive camber). Also, I because I plan on running a bit of stretch, should I stick with a 45 profile tire, or maybe even go down to a 40 profile tire?

I think I made a mistake. Is 245/45-17 usually only for the rear tires staggered w/ 225/50-17 in front? If so, I'd probably just stick with 225/50-17 all around.
In the case of 225/50-17 these should both work?
17x8 + 48
or
17x7.5 +45
For some reason the Enkei I was looking at is 17x7 +38 or +45. The +45 seems like a poor fit (wheel retracts according to the calculations) but +38 should work?
So many questions, sorry

I am a newbie here.
I bought a used (reconditioned from japan) 2003 AT RX-8. It came with 225/55R16 94V stock (i believe) wheels/rims.
How far can I go with the rims and wheels without touching anything? (ie. just to take off the old once and put the new once on)

Offsets for the 17"x9" are 15, 35, 43
Offsets for the 17"x10" are 12, 25 and 35.
Keep in mind I want a bit of poke (will be rolling/pulling the fenders) and, the tire specs will be 225/45's up front and 245/45's out back.
