Don't see why it can't fit...especially at stock height.

TopGear8 03-05-2010 09:36 AM

Might want to post tire size there buddy... 18x9 +29 with some 295's...Well no it won't fit. But 18x9 +29 with some 245's, well you might get lucky.

renesisjim 03-05-2010 10:20 PM

I tried reading thru the 100+ pages just couldn't last. Sorry if this has been answered already couldn't locate it.

18x8.5 45 offset 255/35/18 or 255/40/18 all 4 corners. on Racing Beat springs w/ D-specs.

I am running 245/40 a;l seasons and I am going to strictly summer tires.

TopGear8 03-05-2010 11:17 PM

You obiviously did not read anything...Or you would know that an 18x8.5 +45 with any tire would fit easily. If people with 18x9.5 +45 with 275's will fit, then why would you ask a question like that...Seriously some people need to learn on their own.

Atilla 03-06-2010 03:41 PM

I believe teh n00bz of this forum are beginning to become better n00bz or in this case - more efficient at being a n00b.

It would seem as tho they're purposesly playing naive so we can correct them w/sarcasm. Tho they are getting slightly flammed for their question, they're still receiving the information they were looking for w/out doing any homework.

...i propose that to keep this thread from being a black hole of redundant questions i say that any questions on fitment regarding any sizes lower than 8.5" on 17's, 18's, 19's or 20's in an offset higher than +38 be disregarded. Why? Because 18x8.5, 17x8.5, 19x8.5 and 20x8.5 +38 pretty much fit w/out any modification at all and primarily the safest upgrade in wheel specs on the forum. The only valid question regarding those sizes would be tire sizing IMO.

iono - i could be going off the deep end of wheel nazi-ism but seriously...18x8.5 and you supposedly read 100 pages n' didn't find your answer?? :jerkit: you could've clicked on any body on this thread that has been answering questions for the past 100 pages and seen our specs on wheels n' figured that out.

Mazda_RX804 03-06-2010 03:59 PM

off topic, atilla do you know a link where i can buy those blue light for the small bulbs like the last 3 on the right or 1st on the left?

Atilla 03-06-2010 04:03 PM

 wow, random - you're like the 3rd person who's actually asked me that today!

vleds are the best IMO after comparing the ones in my signature line. You can also check the venders section of this forum - rx8strakes (who's recently changed their company name) is where i got mine and they're pretty good about it. Don't have any direct links atm but if you look up the vendor's websites they should link you directly. Hope this helps.

Mazda_RX804 03-06-2010 04:10 PM

thanks bro, you should start advertising for them lol

MazdaManiac 03-08-2010 12:02 PM

After having my eyes glaze over around page 20, I wanted to ask a n00b question:

Has anybody bothered to make a comprehensive compiled list of particular rims or sizes that fit?

Trying to search just this thread with particular terms is pretty useless since spelling and punctuation are irregular at best.

It would be nice to just have something that says: '17" rims will fit the GT model in these offsets and widths: +4x 9"', ect.

BTW - I am looking for 17"x9" rims that will fit (worried about brake clearance, etc.).

pdxhak 03-08-2010 12:10 PM

Great idea MM. You should get right on that. Can we expect you to have it completed by Friday ;)

TopGear8 03-08-2010 12:27 PM

Jeff, it has been talked about before. But there is never a definite "It Will Always Fit"

A 18x9 +35 with 265's may rub on somebody who is lowered.
-It may not rub on someone who is lowered with over -2 degrees of negative camber.
-It may not rub on somebody who is at stock ride height.
-One 265 may actually be wider than another 265.

So for some things like a 17x9 +45 and a 245. Yes that will fit, no matter how low you are, and no matter how much camber you are running.

But there are alot more variables to consider, which is why there is always going to be the "In Between" fitting and not fitting.

MazdaManiac 03-08-2010 12:46 PM

Well, from my perspective, any tire/wheel choice that is dependent on ride height and camber setting is a "no-go" under all circumstances because of the massively adaptive capabilities of the RX-8 suspension.

If you are able to get a particular size/offset/tread under your car only because you are running a bunch of camber or because you rolled your fenders flat, then you have crippled your RX-8's handling capabilities (or you simply don't drive your RX as it was intended).

The caster/camber and toe all change with ride height and the ride height expands and contracts more than 6 inches when you are using your suspension to its fullest.

That said, I would like to see a 17"x9" with a 275r40 all the way around (like the Toyo R888) that is as close inboard (maximum offset) as possible.

dannobre 03-08-2010 06:29 PM

17X9 with +35 or a bit more should fit on a 9" rim...with 275's

The problem with 17's is that you will need to check that they fit over the front brakes.....some do.....some don't

Well, yeah. That's my point.
"Checking" isn't easily done if you don't have the wheels in hand, which is typically the situation in this day of internet purchasing.

So, I'm looking to see who has actually fitted 17" wheels to their car and what the specs were and clearances.

rafiky87 03-08-2010 06:48 PM

so im lookin into buyin some wheels!
these are the specs :
wheels :
rear- 18x9.5 with either a +25 or +38 offset
front - 18x8.5 with either a +30 or +48 offset

tires :
Front : 245/40 R18
Rear : 275/40 R18

which ones would work best on my 06 rx8? i reall dont wanna do no cuttin or rollin or nothin! car is not lowered, is at normal height! i just dont know if the bigger tires would rub and the offset too.
thanks!

those are rota grids knock off's of Volk TE37's

someone's already done this with a more aggressive setup more than once. Old news

mike[piston eater] 03-09-2010 12:03 AM

yeah and i aint gonna rock no rotas they fail :]

djcharlee 03-09-2010 02:20 AM

They fail? Like as in they brake or warp or crack. Or because they are knock offs and you do not prefer them?
