alright now that ive got the wheels what about the tires
j - u recommended 245/40
someone else recommended 235/35
whats the difference besides size of course does stretching them make them wear out faster or perform better etc?
also does it really matter what the profile is...35 or 40? id like to have less tire showing and flush wheels
sorry if these are all dumb questions but i obviously dont know too much about wheels/tires

it works like this, the distance across the tire would be say, 245, the 40 or 35 is a ratio of the width across. So if you get 45 its a thicker distance to the ground from the lip of the rim than it would be for say, a 35.

the wider the tire the thicker a 45 ratio is going to get, there for, the wider the tire the less the ratio needs to be to achieve the wanted thickness of the tire. Make sense?


To further answer your question, I would say a 245/35 tire would sit nicely. This is the tire size I have on my 19s, this pic may help.

With 18s a 235/35 would be considerably shorter than stock and give you tons of gap between fender and tire. It would also make your speedometer read high and make the ride rougher. 245/40 is still my recommendation. Oh shorter tires make you more susceptible to bent wheels and thinner tires make you more susceptible to curbing.

but i understand the tire sizing much better now

depends on your car, i.e. suspension changes or wheel choice. I have 245/35 and think that my tire is perfectly thick enough. This said, it also would depend on the width of the wheel you choose. If the width of the rim is wide then the 245 would stretch more, making the wall of the tire sit thinner. Where as, on my wheels, I have 19x8 so the 245/35 sits thick.

definitely getting 245 but not sure on 35 or 40 because of fitment, price, ride comfort, etc

decided on FIVE:AD S5-F 19X8.5 30mm
wrapped with Falken 452 245/40/19...........i know theyre not the best but i couldnt pass them up for $150 per tire
what do you guys think???

245/35!!!!!!! 245/40/19 is too tall 245/40/19 is not the same height as 245/40/18 The sidewall will be the same height, but the wheel is 1 inch larger and hence the tire will be 1 inch taller.

Quick question... Would it be a bad idea to run 17x7.5's on a DD with the potential of autcrossing?

I know most people who go down to 17's go wider so I am wondering if going down to 7.5 would be a bad decision since the stock 18's are wider than that.

bad idea for DD? not really.

Bad idea for AutoX? yes.

Just to clarify - "18's and 17's" are a measure of the wheel diameter...not the width.

On a scale from 1-10 how much worse, or how much of a difference would the 17x7.5 be autcrossing than the stock 18's?

The tire size is 205/40/17... don't know much about wheels and tires, but that sounds like a weird size.

yeah...it would be more narrow.

I'm not really going to sit here and discuss with you the differences and scale the disadvantages of having a more narrow wheel when you're autocrossing.

I'm confident that you can see the obvious flaws of going BACKWARDS in terms of modifying.

Ya... I understand that. The only reasons I would do it are for looks I guess. But I don't really even know how much better they will look especially if they are set way in and aren't flush. They are just a good looking wheel.

when autocrossing you are most likely going to want a larger contact patch then stock. So unless you are going to somehow squeak a thicker tire on there then this would just be a bad move

New question... the tires on my stock rims ( 225/45/zr18) won't fit a 8.5" wide 18" wheel will they?

you can run a wider tire if you want. you can also change the side profile series.
