Question What steelies fit !?

Hey guys..I found a really good deal for 16" 2004 Acura TSX steel rims with snow tires that I'm thinking about purchasing for my GT RX8. I checked tirerack and stock wheel size width for the TSX is either 7 or 7.5" Smallest rims I have ever had on my car were 18x7.5" and they cleared the brake calipers just fine. I tried putting on 17x7 aftermarket rims once and they didnt fit because they hit the brakes.

If any of you have had experience putting on steelies please let me know!! I'm also thinking about trying on some 05 Mustang steeleies with 225/55/16 tires

16s will never ever fit on GT brakes. 17s should fit pending offset/width

So I do not see the point in that reply.

A wheel/tire package that sticks out, that is way too large diametre wise, or too small in regard to said parametre, will not fit. And certainly it would look bad. To some, like cholo style, or gangsta style, what actually looks bad, is desired.

Part of a fitting process is visual inspection. Prove of it is the different offsets and widths submited by different members.

If you are ready to walk into a tire/wheel shop and buy what you read in here, w/o actually seing the set up, go ahead.

Fitting and looking good are both sides of the same coin.

There quite literally was a, "Yes it fit" thread. You can try bumping it and bringing it back to life, if you'd like. That seems closest to your idea...

What he is saying is that this thread is alive for users to get clarity about certain specs, as far as whether they would fit or not, nothing more. This thread is for asking fitment questions, rather than creating a database of pictures (similar to the Calling all Exhausts, Calling all Body Kits, etc threads).

And I am proud to be a part of the "cholo style" group, lmao!

I kinda had an idea that 16s wouldn't fit on a GT 8 since those 17x7s i tried on once didn't clear the calipers....but in the case of the mustang 16" steel rims i figured maybe they will fit since an 05 mustang should have large brakes ??

We say if it will stick out beyond the fenders, we say if it will be sunken in, and we say if it fits just right. If you don't want to trust someone's math then this isn't the thread for you? I second Tiltmode's suggestion.

I have no idea why the 17x7s didn't fit as I don't have any offset info. I can only assume the offset was wrong for the brakes? 16s will never fit ever ever ever unless you have the base model auto with the baby brakes. Mustangs don't necessarily have big brakes btw. They are cheap for a reason and big brakes don't help you go fast in a straight line so it is low on their priority list.

Im so torn between two options,

I have 19x8 wheels with a 40 offset and I am going to space them slightly.

I also have 245/35 tires with tein s-tecs on the car and I am trying to decide between a 10mm or a 15mm spacer.

I really dont want to deal with rolling fenders so I am looking to find out if that is even going to be a problem with a 15mm spacer.

I am hoping I will be good with 15 bc they make the ichiba V2 in 15

You will need to roll the fenders. That's what 9krpmrx8 had essentially with stock wheels and 25mm spacer. Rolling fenders is simple and relatively cheap. No reason to hesitate.

Hi guys. Have read 75+ pages during the last week but there seems to be same set-ups with different results as of rubbing, etc.

First the answer to the questions:

1. Yes, mine is an RX-8. 2004, brilliant black
2. I a little lowered with RB springs (+/- .5"). Awaiting for a set of Tokicos in the next few days.
3. My fenders have not been modified in anyway and I don't expect to do so, neither any camber, etc. The only reason is just to keep it simple.
4. Currently I'm in OEM wheels with Toyo 245/40/18.
5. Sorry, but I don't remember the rest of the checklist.

Anyway, this is it, the big issue:

Will like new wheels such as Enkei RP-03 (I want to keep 5 spoke wheels), but will like to move to 18" x 9", which are 40 mm offset. The reasons are I like the wider tire/wheel look, and if I use 255/40/18 will be with the OEM stretched look. The other reason to try to keep tire profile as OEM as possible is that with the crappy roads here where I live, I've noticed it feels less comfortable than when I was using stocks 225.

My concern is that I have found some fellows with a more aggressive offset, let said 38mm, 35 mm with 265/35 and more lowered and no rubbing issues. On the other hand, I have found too few fellows asking about 255/40 with offsets such as 38 mm, and the answer have been they may have rubbing issues. So, 2 questions arises:

1. For that set-up: 18" x 9" 40 mm offset wrapped in 255/40, does it seems to be ok or I can expect to perform some fender work? Depending on this, I may consider the PF-01 in same size but 45 offset.

2. Is possible that 2 different RX-8, same year, same set-up (some lowering, same rims/tires combos) behave different in terms of the gap between the wheel and the fender and so on?

1. I'd imagine this setup to be okay; the reason many say you may run into rubbing is because of that 40 profile on the 255. Though this is closest to stock, it is actually slightly larger and a bit less rare for rx8 ownders. That said, I use the 9.5 ET45 w/275/35 as a baseline when I answer fitment questions, as this setup has been tried and tested to not rub at a reasonable height. Using this comparison, I'd say you should be good to go with the 18x9 ET40 w/255/40's.

2. Technically, yes. Different alignment settings (camber, caster, & toe) as well as wear on the dampers/springs can cause slight visual differences. That said, this difference would really be negligible, if present at all. If you see something you like, you can more or less bet that if you purchase the same parts your car will look the same, as far as ride height goes.

One of the main differences where people don't understand there is a variation is in tires; different manufacturers/models utilize slightly different face widths as well as different shoulder designs causing some tires to actually sit wider than others.

Tiltmode knows his stuff. That being said, 18x9.5 +38 RP03 look pretty good. I'm biased though.

225's arent really necessary unless you already have the tires laying around.

And you're going to want 18x9.5 +20 at least if you want that look above (or 18x10 +25) You could easily fit 9.5 +25 with 245's and a fender roll.

Thanks, Tiltmode43, very instructive. Got your point. Although 255/40 versus 225/45 are just .06" taller which is almost neglectible depending on how is lowered. In your example, 275/35 is .39" lower than stock.

On the other hand, the ET 45 + 1.5" extra width in the wheel means it will be around 24.3 mm outer than stock stock while the ET 40 +1" means 22.85 mm. So in this case the big difference ends up to be the tire profile, if taller or lower than stock.

Regarding the tires, yes I'm aware about manufacturer differences.

Just throwing that last bit out there, tons of people read this thread so it doesn't hurt to be a little overly informative

Like I said, though, you should be fine. However, take everything everyone here says with a grain of salt (including myself), unless they have specifically tested that size/fit.
