Offset and ride height needed. Also if you're willing to do fender work

TrickWilliams 07-09-2011 11:10 AM

even 9.5? i still need fender work, i mean obviously i know im going to have to pull the wheel well mesh.

And jesus, that was the quickest reply ever J lol

TrickWilliams 07-09-2011 11:14 AM

how big of offset in the front? like all the way to 225?

J8635621 07-09-2011 11:15 AM

Offset is not measured in that big of numbers

TrickWilliams 07-09-2011 11:20 AM

jesus, talking tire size...you know that. ok...+15 offset?

J8635621 07-09-2011 12:01 PM

That low of an offset is at the point where it's what you make fit, not what actually fits. You need to be very low for that low of an offset.

Rotary-RX8 07-09-2011 05:37 PM

i never understand why lowering the car more will make the rims fit easier. Sure it will make it look better but "easier" ??? Lower offset = rims stick out more. I know camber does help make lower offset wheels fit but never understand why lower cars are able to fit lower offset wheels. Wouldnt it be easier to fit them if the car was higher so the tire doesnt hit the fender. :dunno:

Explain it to me J :)

Yea either one with 245/40 or 255/40 if you don't plan on lowering (I'd do +45 if choosing the wider tire)

thanks man!

J8635621 07-09-2011 06:07 PM

I think you pretty much get it. My definition of fit means the tire won't be outside the fender at any time so.....

batangisip89 07-09-2011 09:40 PM

Option 1
F/R 18X8.5 +30 Wrapped in 245/40's

Option 2
F/R 18X9.5 +38 Wrapped in 245/40's

Stock Ride height for now, but future will be Tein S. Techs/ Koni Yellows

J8635621 07-09-2011 10:13 PM

Both will fit. 245s are a little skinny on a 9.5" wheel, so I'd suggest a 265/35. It will probably be a little outside the fender at stock height and be a tiny bit sunken with the s-techs/konis.

Z0oMzo0m 07-10-2011 09:32 AM

245 x 40 18x8.5 20 for offset i believe. for the rear tires, also lowered on tien s-techs. <-- that one be ok?

i know 255x 45 rubbed really well.

J8635621 07-10-2011 09:48 AM

What fender work do you have done?

Z0oMzo0m 07-10-2011 10:00 AM

no fender work. the front will remain with 225/45/18

J8635621 07-10-2011 10:59 AM

You definitely need a fender roll in the back and maybe trim up that bumper tab a little bit. edit: Do you have 18x8.5 +20 all around? Why not go 245/40 all around? 225/45 is pretty tall for the front on a lowered car with lower offset wheels so it would kinda be precautionary to keep it from rubbing as well.

If the wheel was attached to a linear plane, then you would be right and lowering the car would make no difference in wheel fitment. However, the wheel isn't; it's attached to a pivoting A arm. So when you hit a bump in the road, your wheel does not go up, but pivots and brings the wheel up into the arches at an angle. So when you lower your car, you're bringing more of the wheel into the fender (at an angle) thereby creating more room for wider wheels.

J8635621 07-10-2011 11:26 AM

So lowering it = same as hitting a permanent bump kind of. It was Rotary-RX8's question in the first place. Lower doesn't make it easier to put the wheel on without rubbing (sorta). It makes it easier to not look like shit.

Ross_Dawg 07-10-2011 06:19 PM

Exactly... you won't magically be able to escape rolling your fenders by lowering the car

TrevorsTII 07-10-2011 06:35 PM

Camber is your friend

Z0oMzo0m 07-10-2011 07:22 PM

Well tires up front are fairly new 225/45/18. The tires in rear need replacing soon, and just wanted to go a little wider.
And yes 18x8.5 +20 all around. Have ran 225/45/18 for past 3 years.

245/40/18 i believe is same diameter rotation as the 225/45 series.

Wallets 07-11-2011 03:54 PM

if i am lowered on konis and s techs and i wanna run 18 x 9.5 +15 what size tires could i get so i wouldnt rub? I am a newb at tires and am trying to step my game up

J8635621 07-11-2011 06:21 PM

Not gonna work out too well imo

Z0oMzo0m 07-12-2011 02:45 AM

i was kinda of thinking that since you haven't replied in several hours.. :-/ lol

you think its going to rub huh? 235/40/18 i can go with. funny they cost more then 245.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....um=44WR8Z222XL
what i was hoping to buy

but i am kinda confused, few post back you said why not run 245/40/18 all around. that 225/45 was to tall...

J8635621 07-12-2011 07:48 AM

You did not have a question in your last post for me to reply to, so I didn't reply. I told you what to do for 245s (roll fenders and probably trim the bumper tab) or you can get 235s obviously (shorter than your front tires by a little bit though).

MUGEN1800 07-12-2011 11:40 AM

ok im about to buy tires in a few mins, and which is better nitto nt 850's at 713, or some nt 555 at 670. stealership says they 850s are better, however the nt 555 (what i have on now) will have to be ordered in.
