I have an 18 x 9.5 +38 offset with 245/40, you will be safe the 9.5 +40. Just go back a page and you will see how it looks stretched. If you get an 8.5 +35, you will be OK and the tires will have a boxed sidewall, but why stay on stock width if you're going to buy new wheels?

Got a set of cades alloys on my golf and buying an rx-8 (2004) but wanted to keep the wheels. Obviously because of the pcd difference I will need adapters and the minimum width of those is 20mm so wanted to know if I'm going to have an issue with rubbing.
F: 18x8 et35 with 215/40/18
R: 18x9 et35 with 225/40/18 (slight stretch)
H&R 20mm pcd adapters

Any help would be greatly appreciated so I know whether I can run them on my new rx-8 or to just sell them with my VW. Thanks

Is that because they aren't going to fit or because how they will affect performance? I love the wheels and they're only 8 months old, but if I do sell them what size and offset would you recommend? Thanks.

Check out the link that J8635621 has; as suggested, an 18 x 9.5 with a +38 offset is the ideal square set-up for an aftermarket wheels. I have the same and I have not had any issues with my rims rubbing on a 245/40 tires; no changes in camber, no fender rolling, no liners and tabs removed.

Depending on what brand of tires you are getting, you may have to roll your fenders on the 9.5" +30 offset wheels. If you use that 25mm spacers on the +40 offset, your wheels will bring it to +15 offset; you surely are beyond the stock set-up. You will need to roll and pull the fenders out, seriously adjust the camber/suspension, and remove the wheel-well plastic liners.

Because adding a 25mm spacers on a +40 will not make it a +65 but a +15 offset. Stock RX-8 wheel offset is +50, I think. And even at +65 offset, your wheels will look so weird (like a drag funny car) and at 9.5" your wheels will start rubbing on your suspension links, making the car impossible to drive.

Yep, sell those front wheel drive wheels. Also, same as above, the 20mm wheel spacers will cause you more headache fitting those wheels in +15 offset.

If you really want those wheels, you can either do one of the two:

1. Have a machinist use a lathe to safely shave off at least 20mm from the wheel's axle mounting surface to fit the the 20mm spacers and maintain the +30 offset.

2. Have the wheels redrill the 5 x 100 to 114.3 lug pattern.

Not that either suggestions will guarantee your wheels will last long, but its an idea :eyetwitch :lol2:

Remember, the higher the wheel's offset, the closer the wheels will be to the differential(i.e.+43 or greater). The lower the wheel's offset, the further out the wheels will be from the differential.(i.e. +22 of less).

Thanks for the advice, however much I love the wheels I think both options are just too much effort for what it's worth. Looks like the wheels are going with the car and I'll run the stock ones until I can get another set which are made for the car.

Mabye a half inch lower than stock ride height. Will i need to roll the fenders in order to not rub or will i be fine? Any better tire suggestions? Mabye even wheel suggestions?

Wheel width is narrower than stock... If you decide to go this route, you should be okay without a fender roll on a half inch drop with or without 20mm spacers.

Im looking at the Rota wheels site and i realized something. With all of the years i've spent gathering knowledge not just about Rotary but Mechanics in general. I've "tinkered" since as far back as i can remember. My best friend and i at about age 15 managed to get a VW engine in a riding lawn mower (both from the junkyard) and make it work. Not once have i ever stopped to figure out wheels. Offsets, lug patterns all of that. Never gave it a thought. Now here i am, prepping to go F.I and get the 8 complete and im kicking myself in the A$$ because i in all honesty dont know how to figure out if my 18x8.5 rims with the 5x114.3 lug pattern and a 225/45 18 tire will rub with a 1/2 inch drop and trying to factor in the freakin offset with spacers to get the "flush" look is just.........A headache..

i think you misunderstood my question. i was asking if 18x9.5 +40 would look similar to stock rim with the 25 mm spacers on the stock rim. so would 18x9.5 +40 be sticking out little bit more or less than 18x8 +25 so that i have a comparison of how it would be alligned to the fender


now im actually thinking about getting weds sa10r or sa15r in 18x9.5 +38. what do you think would look better on our cars?

That would be a nice offset...no drama either ;-)

If that extra inch an a half of width is put into mm you get: 25.4 x 1.5 = 38.1mm

You cut that in half because it is distributed to both sides of the wheel. That leaves you with it sticking out about 19mm further than the 8 inch wheel.

The difference is already 15mm. 19 - 15 = 4mm

It will stick out 4mm further. People need to try to do the math themselves on occasion.

It all means nothing anyway without a tire size.

Thinking about a 19x9.5 +35 rim. I am lowered on eibach springs with bilstein hd shocks and rolled rear lip with shaved tabs. The rears are also slightly cambered out but not sure by how much.

What is the widest tire that I can fit? I've seen 275/35 but just want to check.

I need them flush. I do not want sunk in wheels (a la stock). minor fender rolling would be fine, not looking to cut/modify stock fenders.

What do you think? Do I need a lower offset for the rears to have them flush?
