I have 18X10.5 on all 4 corners..with 275 series tires...they fit with no rubbing

And 18X9.5 with 275's..also fit with no problems

It is ALL about the offset....

IF you want the outer edge to fit flush on the outside with 9.5" rims...go with about a 38-40 offset..that will be OK with almost any tire and any drop and shouldn't have to roll.

9.5's with a 35 offset will rub with wider tires...but you can roll to get rid of it

Less than 35 offset on a 9.5" wheel and you are likely going to have problems even with a normal roll..unless you run tons of -ve camber and want to really kill your wheel wells.

If you look at the wheel calculator a few posts up..and put your outer edge in the same area as the 9.5 45 offset you will be OK....the problem is the outer edge on the rears...anything that fits on the back will likely be OK on the front as well.....

Oh yea, I have mazdaspeed springs and koni struts so about .8" of drop all around.

2 fingers width rear and about 2.25 fingers in the front don't have a ruler lol. That is with my fingers at an angle btw. Not horizontal. 1 finger width rear and 1.25 in the front when horizontal.

^Nice - i have swift springs (.8 drop) and i was looking to get koni's so the drop would be about the same. Good info!

Hi, i'm about to buy a RX-8, but i need to know if my winter tires will fit it. Here in Quebec, it's a law to have 4 winter tires...
I have a Mazda6, and I want to know if my winter tires from this car will fit. The rims are 16 inchs, and the tires are 205/60R16. I don't know the offset. But if i buy 4 spacers, will it be ok? If yes, what would be the thickness of the spacers?

I doubt that they would fit over the brakes in the front...you will likely have to sell them and get some 17"..and even at that it's a crap shoot...some of them fit and some don't.

It would be worth a try...but my guess is no

I'm afraid that if it's a GT, then it will have the larger brakes that won't fit inside 16 inch rims. I have been told that tirerack and some other vendors carry rims in 17" that do accommodate the Touring brakes. If your proposed RX-8 was the AT model with the OEM 16" rims and corresponding smaller brakes, then I think you might have been all set; but with a GT I don't see how it could work.

I actually only have one set of rims, so I have tyres swapped out twice a year. It's hardly ideal; but cash flow was an issue at the time. I got 4 Pirelli Snowsport 240 tyres for $500 and I am on my 3rd winter with them. Perhaps something like that might work for you as well.

OK, thanks for your answers, it the GT model, with the bigger brakes. But i was thinking about buying 4 spacers, to put between the wheel and the and bearing, if i do that, will it fit?

It has more to do with the inner rotational dia of the wheel hitting on the brake caliper....I doubt that spacing it out will help.....it will depend on the shape of the inner surface of the rim...and be limited by outer wheel position.

By the time you buy a decent set of spacers...you are more than half way to a set of snow tires anyway

Yeah, 16" won't fit, even with spacers. Spacers will just push the wheel farther out from the hub, but the problem is the wheel still won't clear the caliper. Inside diameter. 17" is the lowest you can go.

Haven't people put stock 16" fd wheels on an 8 by shaving a little off the caliper or something. I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I read it somewhere.

Hi, I'll be collecting my ride in 2 weeks time and I have been researching on replacing the stock wheels.

For a start, it will be on stock height, but future upgrade will include new coilover to lower the ride by .8 to 1, nothing too aggressive otherwise I have problem clearing the city bumps and humps.

I am now looking at: 18x9 +38, on 255/40/18 all round, no stagger. Do I need to roll? Will it flush ok?

I have decided on 18", and between 245-255 tyre profile but I was a bit puzzle by the width. What determines the choice of width? If I understand correctly, you can fit most tyre profiles onto 8/8.5/9/9.5" rims width. So why would I choose a 8.5 over 9.5? Sorry noob question.

Yes 18x9 + 38 with 255/40 will clear no problems, it won't be flush but will be close. You would choose the wider wheel, because it will give you more tire options.

^That will fit without a problem. And if you put a 265 on a 8" wheel. You will have a very soft sidewall which will make the car less responsive. If you put a 265/275 on a 9.5" wheel, the sidewall will be alot stiffer therefore more responsive. For a 9" wheel, 255's are usually the tire size of choice.

I probably will ended up with Work Emotion XT7. Have looked at the spec and they offer following sizes:

18x8.5 (+46, +38, +32, +25)
18x9.5 (+38, +30, +20, +12)

From the look of the number, bigger width also means it will allow a more aggresive (+12) setup?

My revised setting: 18x9.5 +38, on 255/40/18

Any issue with the above?

I read the stock 8 won't be able to appreciate anything wider than 265 due to the torque. Is this true?

Suppose if power mod is not on my upgrade list, I presume I shouldn't really be bother with anything larger than 265 (unless for the aesthetic)?

Can I fit 255 onto 18x9.5"?

Will I have clearance issue with the front? (I have read we can fit 245 max to the front without the need to roll)
