Post 1283 has my setup which is similar....18x9.5 +38 with 245/40. It seems everything you have heard is wrong btw. You can fit a 275 in the front with no need to roll, and power isn't the deciding factor for most of us on tire width; its handling/aesthetics.
|
275 is too big IMO for an rx8. 255 is probably the best.
|
^^ there's a ton of guys on here running 275's
|
Grip wise I love my 275 Azenis, but they just don't have the feel of a narrower tire. I decided to drop down to a 265/35 RE01-R and comparing sidewalls with a spare Azenis I have sitting around the 265 is noticibly stiffer. Hoping to get the feel back while keeping most of the grip. Not that I even need that grip on the street, but wide tires look badass.

Thank you all for the clarification and feedback. I am now finalizing the tyre selection.
The 4 available tyre profiles (on 18x9.5): 245/40R18 255/35R18 265/35R18 275/35R18 I've read on post 750, 791 that 265/35R18 will throw your speedo a couple % off the reading. Can someone help me with which of the above profile will give a closer fit without too much deviation on the speedo (no price for guessing 245/40R18 lol).

I read the stock 8 won't be able to appreciate anything wider than 265 due to the torque. Is this true?
Suppose if power mod is not on my upgrade list, I presume I shouldn't really be bother with anything larger than 265 (unless for the aesthetic)? Can I fit 255 onto 18x9.5"? Will I have clearance issue with the front? (I have read we can fit 245 max to the front without the need to roll) |

hey, i've got 18x8, 5x114.3, +35 offset rims with 225/45/R18 tires on them and i currently have stock springs and shocks... i'm looking at a couple different lowering spring options and need to know what is best
eibach pro kit: drops 1.2" in the front and .8" in the rear tein s.tech: drops 1.4" in the front and .7" in the rear tanabe gf210: drops 1.4" in the front and 1.2" in the rear mazdaspeed: drops 1.5" in the front and 1.0" in the rear which of these would work best, and would any of them cause the wheels to rub or require rolling of the fenders? i'm leaning towards either the eibachs or teins currently. |
Wheels will work with all......
|
awesome thanks. would it be necessary to replace the stock shocks or is it ok to leave them?
|
No you can reuse your shocks.
|
That all depends on what you want..
They will be underdamped for the stiffer shocks...so they will not be perfect. If you want looks and OK performance they will work OK till they wear out (quicker) If you are looking for better damping replace them ......... |
Hi all, thanks for the valuable feedback. I am now much more informed in setting up my ride.

Koni is probably the best.

I think someone should just post up a chart of multiple rim widths/size and all the possible Offsets that would work with out having to roll, then ones that need roll, and ones that wont. This could help everyone out instead of waiting for answers. lol i know i never got mine when i asked something.

Maybe I am lazy not reading the whole thread, but...
Will this setup work on my 8? Without rubbing or mods? Option 1: 20x8.5 +40 255/30 YR20 f/r or possibly Option 2: 19x8.5 +40 255/35 YR19 front 275/30 YR19 rear and lastly Option 3: 19x8.5 +40 front 19x9.5 +40 rear 255/35 YR19 front 275/30 YR19 rear ----------------------------------------------- Max. The Maxed-out swedish guy. |
Both will work with out rubbing. 275 is too big for 8.5, 255 max.
|
How about this, Whats the best offset for a 18x9.5 , and a 18x10. I need i do have a sustec five so its fully adjustable.
Thanks |

ok turns out i didnt get enough money to get the rims so i have to stick with the
stock 16's the 05' autos had, question here... the stock 16s, according to Tirerack, used a tire size of 225/55-16, which is currently on my car right now but my tread is almost bald and id like to get the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs but they dont make them in that size so what size should i opt for instead if i can find the right size and that they fit? |

You should be able to run up to 275 in the rear, maybe 265, 255? it's up to you.
But rear @ 275 35 19 is rubbing when I turn. Its catching on a plastic cover thing. I have to replace the tires cause they are really bad. Now I want to stay at 35. If I do 265/35/19 will this fix the problem? http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...IMAGE_0611.jpg |
