im actually getting a new set of wheels, but i have 18x7.5's kicking around i might use for daily driving and the other a track set
could i put 245/40/R18's on the 7.5 inch? or would that not fit well?

well, i got my wheels and tires on, thanks to this thread.
now i just gotta resolve some rubbing issues. rubs the front against the plastic inside when i max out the steering, and the rear just needs to be rolled. i hope.

BUT for 245/45/R18 the smallest is 7.5 inches. any reasoning for this?
EDIT: is it just because there is more sidewall to go around?

the sidewall size does not calculate the sidewall exactly. a 45 series tire will have more stretching capacity than a 40 series tire.. one because of the bigger sidewall, but there is also a lateral calculation in that also... one that im not aware of how it works.
I still would not put that on a 7.5 " wheel... would just look way too goofy.

http://nittotire.com/#index%2Etire%2Einvo%2Esizes I'm talking about where it says 245/45/17 and 245/40/17 have different approved rim sizes. It says the 245/40/17 is good for 8-9.5 with 8.5 being best, while 245/45/17 is 7.5-9 with 8 being best. Every tire manufacturer I've checked has it this way.

Overall tire width matters also......The tire width and profile are ratios...
In this case the 245-40 is a wider tire than the 245-45..if they were the same width you could stretch the 45 over a larger size of rims...doesn't mean it's a good idea.....as the flexier sidewalls need to be supported better....
Not so easy really...thats why \i look at what the manufacterer recommends and go from there

I knew some tires were wider (Neova, Azenis, etc.) than the numbers let on, but I guess I never thought there would differences between profiles on the same tire lol. Damn millimeter should be standardized or something.

I'm thinking of these rims in 19x8 front and 19x9.5 in the rear with a 40mm offset. 245/35's front and 275/30's or 255/35's in the rear. Tein S Techs and Tokico D specs. Will they fit?

need help on my rear tires. i don't know if i am posting in the right place but i got a 19x10 +43 with a 285/35/19... only reason why i went with those tires because i got them dirt cheap. i already rolled and trimmed some of the rear bumper but it looks like the white mounting tab for the rear bumper is where my tires are getting chewed up at. i was wondering what i can do to not rub on that part. i tried throwing some camber but no go.. i want to run a skinnier tire but this needs to do for now. can i cut off the tab? need help!

i agree that the 35 series is too tall.. i wanted to go with a 275/30 tire but the tires were $100 bucks so i had to try to fit it. somebody has to have a solution for that white bracket looking thing that mounts the rear bumper to the fender. still need help... and i am glad that the wheels came out great, thanks

okay i took this picture from the Shine Auto Project forum so disregard the red squares, but right above the guys right index finger is where my tire is rubbing against when i hit a good dip and bump. after looking at this picture it looks like there is no way of cutting that tap without my bumper not fitting right. i guess i might have to go to a skinnier tire or raise my coilovers. give me some suggestions guys!
