Im looking at bridgestone Blizzark LM-25

maybe Dunlop M3.

Living in NYC ... Snows from 1 inch to 12 inches

 

Ran Dunlop M3s on my MX5 last winter. Performance was better than my previous Integra with All Seasons.
Now have same M3s on the RX8.

They are super.

From what I have read from others, Blizzaks are as good if not better but not as good dry as the M3s. Here in NY, I would recommend the M3. If this were Buffalo or Ankorage.. well maybe the Blizzaks.

 

I got some inexpensive 225-50-17 Hankook W300 Ice Bear Tires on 17 inch winter wheels

 

I'm still trying to decide if I should try to stick it out here in Indiana with the stocks and save my money for rims. Prolly not the smartest choice but I'm sure gonna try it. HAHA

 

You will be fine...as long as you don't drive from the end of Nov...til Mar.

The stock tires are dangerous when near freezing...and don't even think about driving in the snow...............

 

From everything I've read, that's a terrible idea. Indiana gets snow and the stock rubber is only good on dry pavement. I'd highly recommend winter tires. It's $400 for winter ones that go on your stock wheels... honestly, is a fender bender worth that to you?

Plus, you'll wear out your summer tires at 1/2 of the rate, too, so it's really only paying for mounting.

 

dunlop M3s... LOVE them. i live in columbus ohio so its pretty close to the same weather and there is NO chance you can drive safely on stock rubber in the winter... my 8 was fishtailing on 0.5" of snow.... while idling. thats when i figured it was time to get some snows. i got 215's on 17's .. wanted a diff set of rims, and 17s to keep the ride smoothe and tires cheaper.. and 215's for a smaller footprint in snow.

 

Dunlop Graspic works for Ohio winter.

To the guy in Indiana trying to stick it out, make sure you have a warm blanket and a charged cell phone...you'll need it.

 

My snow tires are on a different car! ha..

I love our 04' when we had it in the snow. it was terrible! I got stuck many times..

 

Hey, I'm right across the water in Jersey City. I use Blizzak LM22 on 18" stockers. Bought a set for last winter and went through the rears over the course of the winter. It's surprising how much sliding about the parking lots will wear your tires

Great tire and excellent performance in the snow. Not a single problem in any of the snow we had last winter (I know we didn't have much, but trust me, I was out there every time ) Anything that is passable in a RX8 you can do with these tires.

Just got a new set of rears for this winter, and I intend to ice race with these same tires also!

 

Coming from a fellow New Yorker go for the M3's. I use them and love them, I remember when I leaved in LI i use to leave the 8 at home when it snowed more then 2 inches. Now I can drive the 8 all winter long in WI. That is as long as the snow stays bellow 5 inches.

 

I was thinking about buying those EXACT tires today but I wanted to read up on them first.

How do you like them?

 

I have them as well. I have only one winter on them, but I was totally satisfied. I note that they recently were rated "Poor" for snow traction by Consumer Reports, but they seemed to work fine for me. No worse than the pricey LM-22 we have on our 3-series wagon. You have more snow up there I reckon, but for me they were fine. The LM-22's were close to the wear bars so the 8 was the go-to car on snow days, so that'll tell you something right there.

On bare roads they were awesome...surprisingly responsive and deathly quiet compared to the OEM summer tires.

 

Pirelli Winter Sport 240s...have made it thru 2 winters with them and they' ve been perfect. They are 18s on my stock rims. We don't get as much snow as NY but i will say that in the times that it has snowed they have been excellent. Ground clearance becomes my only issue.

 

my blizzaks worked like a charm last winter.

 

my M3's will be going through their 4th winter pretty soon...

 

I am ok with Dunlops brand, My OEMs were Dunlops and it never disappointed me.

Dunlop M3, 177 per tire x 4 , plus 50 dollars rebate

Bridgestone Blizzark LM-25, 189 per tire x 4, no rebate, no special

Im more on the Bridgestone side ... I dont know -_-

 

pirelli winter 210 sottozero - 215/55R17 size.

I like 'em, still pretty sporty (I believe they are considered 2 season tires), no problem on snowy days as long as the roads are reasonable. (In unreasonable conditions why are you driving? wait for mr. plow...)

We've got pretty good snow removal around here (in the city) so no point for me to go too aggressive (soft) for crazy snow. I only got into trouble (and even then just a real pain in the ***, no accident) one time when the girlfriend sent me out in the middle of the storm and the plows hadn't gotten started yet and I had to park in a really awkward place. (~with about 3 inches on the ground)

 

I have gone through 2 winters on Toyo Proxes 4 all seasons..

They are ok but I think the winter tires would be much better...

I just picked up Hankook Ice Bears... stock size... Haven't tried them yet but I hope they work ok..

 

There are to many choices for winter tires so I just moved to florida.

 

+1 to that!!! That is my ultimate solution, just need to get everything in place to implement it!

Im rolling on Blizzaks...they're really good in the snow.

 

I did that last year when the stock tires were new and it was a mess just going through the development in a dusting. Fortunately, my coworkers were nice enough to take me on days when we actually had snow hit the ground. So yeah, my recommendation would be to consider snow tires or bum rides everywhere when it snows.

 

make sure you post the photos of your car when it gets smacked up when you try to drive in a dusting.

all kidding aside, if it snows, DON'T even attempt to drive with your stockers. it's no lie how very little snow makes the 8 useless...until you get the right tires on it.
