Is it worth buying used tires?

For new ones, based on Falken ZE-912, 245/40/18, the cheapest I can get online is $536 (shipped, without warranty)

For our local shops, it's gonna cost $612 including alignment (which I think this is more efficient)

The question is, does buying used tires worth the money? (because I am short on budget now)

For ex: 4 used tires 245 40 R 18 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RSC Run Flat
Price: $259.99
4 used tires 245 40 R 18 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RSC Run Flat

Treadwear 140, Traction A, Temp A.

These tires are not dry or uneven wear with nice shoulders.

5-6/32ND tread depth.

The price indicated is for 4 tires.

Is this look fair?

Those runflats are designed for heavier cars

And eben on them they suck ..really stiff sidewalls.

Feel like bricks

Try and find someting else used if you need to save the money...i wouldn't touch either of those

Whatever drifts you...just make sure there is enough tread life on it when buying used tires. I'm not recommending it, just trying to help out.

Not sure how long you want your next set of tires to last you, but I found a set of brand new Kumho Ecsta XS 225/45/R18 on eBay for about $500 shipped from a reputable tire warehouse in Georgia.

These tires will probably only last 10k - 15k miles (definitely won't make it past 20k) since the compound is so soft, but they have unbelievable handling. They're the best tires I've driven for taking tight corners at high speed in my 8. If it's raining though or there are puddles, you need to slow down with these or you'll hydroplane. Also you feel speed bumps and potholes a lot more on these. So there are definitely some drawbacks, however, I think they're really designed for use in autocrossing, and at 500 bucks shipped for a full set...I don't mind if they only last me a year because I'm telling you the handling on these is amazing.

If you want to buy used tires, i recommend buying them from www.atlantistire.com. I recently had a run in with some metal shards on the road near a construction zone damaging my driver side front tire. I found this place, got a pair of bridgstone potenza RE050A 225/40/19 for $210 shipped. The tires had about 90% tread life on it. My thing is i don't trust ebay all too much and these tires were way cheaper than craigslist so i went with them. I'm very happy with their service and they have a large assortment of tires. Just my input if you're going for used tires

There are only a few factors to look into when buying a decent set of used tires. Price, tread wear, and when they were made (numbers molded into sidewall). A decent set will be just fine as long as the price and usage justifies it.

Tire prices for new tires as of right now are ridiculous. They are inflated as hell since they went up with crude oil while it was $110 a barrel or something up there. But now that crude is finally on its way back down to more realistic levels ($90 and below), the prices of tires should come down with it in a few months.
If possible, I'd hold out for now on buying new treads...or try to look for bargains similar to what I had found on eBay last week. They were made in 08...so they were sitting around for 3 years old...but ehh..that's not too bad. The same set of tires I got new for $500 are selling for $750+ elsewhere

Tread wear 140 used is probably a bad idea. They won't last real long even brand new.

I just got a set of Federal SS595 new for 85 a piece plus shipping. 245/40r18 with 240 tread wear AA directionals.

Previous owner put these on, they're not bad. Grip is actually decent, not too loud, and ride decently. I won't put another set on when the time comes, but that's because I'm looking for dry grip pretty exclusively since this is a fun car only.
