Just upgraded to the BHR ignition kit -- any reason to keep the stock parts?
I'd noticed some sluggishness off the line for the past year or so, and I was starting to hear crackling in the radio when driving through parking garages, so I knew my ignition system was on its way out. After 48,000miles, I can't complain too much, or so I'm told. So I priced my replacement options, and I determined the BHR ignition kit would be $75 more than replacement OE parts. For such a small price difference, I decided to go with the BHR kit. It was a pain in the *** to get it to fit, but it did fit, and now my engine is back to feeling healthy again.
So...since the stock coils and wires had 48kmi on them and were starting to show signs of failure, and since I would have to completely remove the BHR kit if I needed to swap-out one of the coils anyway, is there any reason to keep the stock parts or should I just toss them in the dumpster at my local repair shop?

72K KMS. What bother me is that I don't really no what did it. Especially cause the failure was spontaneous.
Reman was supposed to be in today but looks like it won't be till next week
Going to go to the dealership when they get it in to have a look. I was told by my friend that owns a Rotary shop to check the oil pan for excessive sealant since he has found a lot of failed remans with **** loads of stringy silicone in the engine from crappy builds

Well, sometimes **** just breaks. I doubt the cold weather where you live helps much. I think if I lived where you did, I'd have to have a beater to drive any time it was below -10C, because that's about the coldest it ever gets where I live and my RX-8 hates it.
How could you check the oil pan for excessive sealant on the inside, without taking the oil pan off?

He has an S2, he has a question related to installation of an aftermarket part. Yeah, there are other places it could be, and it's a rather simple question that might be rather obvious to most, but there isn't any justification for taking any moderator action here.

I also don't see a problem.
You must have cabin fever.
I save all my parts that may still be good.
I still have my last set of plugs, coils &
wires since I installed my BHR kit.
I also have my ungutted bad cat, in case any local member should ever need one, and a cheap Walker cat.

The coils in the BHR kit can and do fail just like any other. BHR has always taken care of any issues that I know of, but usually the whole kit gets sent back. So if you need to have your car running it's a good idea to hold onto the OE system.

I would keep the old stuff for the above stated reasons. Should I need warranty work, my car will go back to stock before going to the dealer. BHR kits also have some used value and can be sold when you trade out of the car.
