Oil flow direction to coolers

Looking to see if someone knows which hose off the motor to the oil coolers is supply and which is return? I have an S2 motor in a kit car and my oil cooler is above the pan and am having drain back issues. I need to add a check valve to my system but not sure which line to put it on or direction.

Have you tried searching? There are many threads on custom oil cooler setups.

sorry, I never paid enough attention to the S2 engine to know if they changed the positions from the S1 engine or not.

I searched but nothing that pertains to the S2. It all seems to be S1 related.

@TeamRX8 They moved the hoses so both come directly off the front cover on the S2

That's interesting, If your engine is together shouldn't you be able to just turn it over by hand and see which port oil shoots out of? Otherwise you may be able to tell by following the oil tubes cast into the front iron and front cover to see where the oil goes after the oil pump.

Looks like the s2 oil filter spot kinda sucks to change out.

I was thinking maybe so since they moved the filter to the front cover, let me see what I can dig up.

so yeah, they did a lousy job by not really even documenting it in the 2009 service highlights manual, but I did find this picture that does more or less tell the tale:

because it appears to mimic the flow path of the S1 in that oil is sent from the oil pump out the engine and to the LH oil cooler (now appears as the rear hose on the S2 in the pic above), then over to the RH cooler, and then back to the oil filter pedestal (appears to be the front hose on the S2 now in the pic above).

Or regardless of direction, the hoses are clearly pointing to their respective cooler line connections.
