Who cares about performance, newbs want intakes for the looks and sound. The only intakes that are not gay are the ones that lead to a turbo.

Geez you guys love waisting money on stuff..

Mazda invested a squillion on optimum intake design, and some upstart company with access to pipe designs an intake which is 'better'...even the MSpeed one is crap!

And yes unless you run a turbo, leave the OE as it is, you already have the best cold air intake and air filtering system....if you really want to hear "thrills"/ more intake noise remove the OE Air Box Baffles.

I don't completely agree on the aem\ms intake. It really depends on what you have to do with your car.

wow... alot of bashing on this thread.. the only reason I asked was that I purchased a 09 wrecked and needed to purchase a replacement box and intake because this one was damaged in the wreck. I surely am not knowledgeable with this vehicle.. thats why I was asking. Can't we all just get along??? LOL

My eyes are telling me that all of that stuff would have been better off staying there.

Just because something is from somewhere doesn't mean it actually looks good, and works visually.

Now, where did I leave that bottle of eye bleach?

BC.

What's funny is that in Japan, USDM is the hot ticket The grass is always greener. But for a long time the JDM did have the coolest cars.

Drop in K&N. Takes 60 seconds start to finish, won't screw anything up AND...

You get a sweeeeet K&N sticker.

Mine came with some green colored filter in it. Not sure who makes a bright green filter, but it seems to be well made. I might get a K&N once this one is ready to go.

Probably this. http://www.greenfilterusa.com/ I wouldn't waste your money on a K&N if you already have one of these.

I have a Green panel filter on my car. It is rechargeable just like the K&N. As a matter of fact, you can use the K&N recharge kit on it.

I didn't see this earlier. There was no change. OEM air filter box with Green panel filter.

Wasting money?

For those who use OE intake and filter...
Green $104 ($70)
OE Mazda $21

OE has been recognized by Mazda racing teams as one of the best to use.

Yes, I wouldn't waste the money.

1) He bought a car which was already equipped with a reusable, drop-in panel filter.

2) He stated he was considering replacing it with another reusable, drop-in panel filter.

So, I'm not debating whether there are any gains to be had from a K&N/Green filter vs OEM paper filter or whether the higher replacement cost is worth the money at all. That's not an issue because his car already has a Green Filter. But, that said, to pay to swap out one reusable, rechargeable, drop-in panel filter for another one would be, in my observation, wasting money... he already has one.

Unless, of course, he REALLY hates green and/or is just dying for one of the aforementioned super sweeeeeeeeet K&N stickers.

Waisting money, no. The Green/K&N filters are lifetime. They get dirty, you clean and recharge them. Mazda OE filters get dirty, you throw them away.
