Oh for sure. I dont plan on blindly modifying / flashing things at the moment anyway lol. Btw, just to confirm, the latest version of ME removes the flash limit right?

Brettus 02-21-2013 10:59 AM

That is what I was told ... :)

paimon.soror 02-21-2013 11:13 AM

paimon.soror 02-21-2013 03:34 PM

Sweet!

Well I am losing confidence in the folks over at mazdaEdit, and luckily was able to get in contact with another popular mazda tuning group and am working with them on bringing S2 support to their software. Stay tuned :)

Don't give up on mazdaedit! I'm slowly dissecting the rom now!

paimon.soror 02-24-2013 07:40 PM

communication is painful with them :( I can't get a feel for when the personal version is going to support the RX8.

Epihan is sometimes slow to respond to emails, but he is a small operation. I know he was ill this week. Hang tight, I know he is working on it. In the mean time we here are playing with the tables

Great to hear. Will be in the area March 10/11 if you have update for me to try.

paimon.soror 02-26-2013 05:02 PM

Got a dump of the S2 ecu using a tool that the guys over at versatuner made over the past few days for the S2... I cannot really share anything, but might have good news in the near future :D

Satomi09 02-28-2013 12:36 AM

keep the hope alive. haha

paimon.soror 03-02-2013 06:09 PM

S2 owners will be able to at the very least start tweaking some dwell settings very soon ;)

olddragger 03-02-2013 07:12 PM

Just keeping everyone informed, per email with Epifan yesterday S2 Personal version should be released sometime this week.

paimon.soror 03-12-2013 11:31 AM

Versatuner software should be out soon as well ;)

REtali8 03-12-2013 11:40 AM

Paimon, are you familiar enough with both to list any differences, pros/cons, ease of use for different levels of expertise? Does the versatuner also require dongle and if so, is it same as MazdaEdit?

paimon.soror 03-12-2013 11:44 AM

same dongle can be used (OpenPort 2.0 from tactrix). There isn't too much more I can reveal about the software itself in regards to versatuner, but the user interface itself is (imo) miles ahead of mazdaedit. I just got some screenshots from the developer showing off the datalogging features and parameters of the VT and they look great.

I can confirm that data has been dumped from my S2 without any issue, found and defined almost all tables that one would need to properly tune the car, DTC masking is available, ignition timing/dwell settings have been defined, logging parameters have been defined, and more.

Here is a preview of what the logging screen looks like as far as parameter selection:

REtali8 03-12-2013 11:53 AM

Dynotronics was able to dump my ecu with MazdaEdit as well without issue. Just need to figure out if either or both will flash without issue. We know the price for MazdaEdit. Without letting anything out, any word on price point for versatuner?

paimon.soror 03-12-2013 12:40 PM

That hasn't been divulged to me just yet, but the products that they have available for tuning other Mazda's is around the $399 price point.

carrrnuttt 03-12-2013 03:39 PM

Does this mean there's hope for a proper FI install on S2s?

Yes

REtali8 03-12-2013 04:00 PM

That's one thing I'm hoping for carrmutt. Also being able to adjust other options like idle would be nice. Looking through the versatune they state can do launch control and no lift shifting as well as community based tuning.

9krpmrx8 03-12-2013 04:22 PM

Why does everyone care about adjusting idle? I have seen a few S2 owners state that they would like to be able to adjust idle.
