I sent my laptop out to OK so RIP can put tune into mazda edit that we did with hypertech last summer. Then shipping back to me to flash ecu. Hopefully turns out good ... he spent a shitload of time with the car last summer to get that tune. If it needs tweaked I'll head out to OK, but hoping I don't have to. Should know in next couple weeks at latest depending on how long it takes for him to get all of the info into mazda edit that he mapped out last summer.

I've been monitoring this thread for a while, and it's exciting to see that progress is slowly being made towards a proper tuning solution for the Series II.

I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to tuning but I understand the principles and how the electronic systems work, coming from working on aircraft flight systems. Does this mean that a Series II forced induction kit could also be pieced together or be in development by a manufacturer?

I'm pretty sure the bulk of the GReddy kit would work... swap in a hacked AEM CAI and enjoy!

The guy that I have been working with (Steve) took a vacation week last week so thats why I haven't heard back in that time. Still confident though that they are close to releasing a final build ;)

I'm interested in tuning my R3, but I also have an S1 that I would like to tune / practice on before messing with the newer 8, so I e-mailed epifan about MazdaEdit Pro. This is the bulk of what he replied with:

This seems to indicate that the Pro version is more different from the Personal version than I had thought. Has anyone had a chance to use or see both? If so, are there any appreciable differences aside from the VIN restriction? I'm wondering if I should buy the Personal version twice (to tune two cars) or the Pro version once.

On the other hand, VersaTuner at least gives the appearance of a more professionally-produced product; does anyone here have experience with it who would recommend waiting for RX-8 support in VersaTuner instead of buying MazdaEdit?

You can define new maps with Pro if you know the base address, dimensions, and mask for the region you want to manipulate.

Wow I haven't been this excited since i first heard of the Cobbs AP... I think I'll wait and weigh both options when available though... but at least MazdaEdit works and gives us one option to begin with!

Ok got my tune back from RIP using the maps we did last year on hypertech but just used mazda edit to do with that info. Turned out very good ! Idle is much smoother, seems to be a nice increase in pick up but I haven't done a dyno yet. May do one once it gets warmer but maybe RIP can get on here and give some info on what he did with the tune, etc. B

Any news or update on versatune?
I'm pretty excited to see their final product. The"sneak peaks" and screen shots make the interface look sweet.

Down to the final stretch barring any unexpected quirks as far as I am aware. They are just working on the checksum verification logic for the flashing of the ECU. Btw, they recently set up a section of their forum for the RX8 :)

Thanks Paimon. I'm glad to hear of the progress. I noticed the forum section, but there hasn't been any updates there since let month. I wish they posted and ETA our something. I'm sure everyone is excited for another S2 solution.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered a tactrix. When it arrives I'll order Mazdaedit and let you guys know how it works out.

Once all of this has been used a bit and you guys have some experience with it, I would love to see a sticky for tuning options for the Series II, including what you need to buy to get it going, tuning recommendations, etc.

I am dying to see some updates in this thread... at some point I will be taking the cat off my s2 to run on the track and I'd like to sort out AFR and the CEL when I do that and hopefully get a bit more tq and power for my effort. I'd also like to modify the throttle map to reduce sensitivity at low revs for street driving (although you get used to it, the factory map seems to make full tq at low revs in just a few mm of pedal travel - a nice trick to make the car feel quick, but it grows tiresome in traffic especially if you switch cars frequently). Finally, I might be interested in the BHR ignition if I can modify the dwell times accordingly, or perhaps I should just replace the coils with the latest oem 'C' version...

I *think* I can do all this today with Mazdaedit (not sure about the throttle map?), with some concerns over usability and stability... It will be good to know how versatuner compares and if it is worth the extra $$$ over mazdaedit. I didn't come up with much information when googling versatuner vs mazdaedit expecting to find some comparisons on cars they both support today.

You would be hard pressed to find rev C coils at this point in time.

For you guys that have mazdaedit... how was the set-up process for you? I've had to go back and forth with Epifan quite a bit after the initial setup (where he gives you the multiple key files necessary to get it to work) such as needing to send him an ECU bin dump file and then updating the mep.eed file before being able to load the ECU bin hex file he sends back.

It was a drawn out process for me and pretty much everyone else I've talked to that has it .....I got pissed off several times - the end result was better than anything else I've had though.

Mmm updates. Thanks brettus, though I have to ask, why are there 4 throttle tables? I was hoping for one 3d table pedal position vs throttle position vs rpm.
