Mmm updates. Thanks brettus, though I have to ask, why are there 4 throttle tables? I was hoping for one 3d table pedal position vs throttle position vs rpm.

1-2
3-4
5-6

Good to know, thanks.

Might have some good news with Mazdaedit... looking very promising with my project :wavey:

AerialEight 05-26-2013 02:47 AM

Watcing this closely, really hoping that this or Versatuner become a viable tuning option. Thanks to all for your work in bringing S2 tuning closer to reality.

With regards to Mazdaedit being a viable tuning option for the S2 the answer is looking like it will be: yes :)

ShellDude 05-27-2013 08:49 AM

There's an S2 sitting on the dyno getting MEP tuned at speed1.

Looks like they're easing into it... 232whp currently.

Roen 05-27-2013 09:16 AM

Wonder what that S2 that's being tuned has.....

ShellDude 05-27-2013 09:44 AM

I'll go take a look...

ShellDude 05-27-2013 10:54 AM

Oooo... Turblown with an oil less turbo

Brettus 05-27-2013 04:08 PM

So .................................................. ....... first turbo S2 ? !!!!!!!!

ShellDude 05-27-2013 04:50 PM

I can neither confirm nor deny as it is someone else's setup :) :) :)

You already said it was an s2 with a turbo - so you already have confirmed !!!! :yelrotflm

ShellDude 05-27-2013 05:11 PM

I've confirmed nothing LOL... I think I figured out who's setup this is so I don't want to steal all their thunder.

Fair enough .. we just need a few minor details :

Turbo setup pics and details
Final Dyno WHP
0-60 and 1/4 mile times

That's all :p:

ShellDude 05-27-2013 05:54 PM

I'm sure that will all soon be revealed

I shouldn't of said anything in hindsight. While Yordan was replacing my OMP o-ring I happened to peak into the dark dyno room (door was partially open) and saw a sweet S2 sitting in there... the screensaver wasn't enabled on the dyno PC ... I had to take a look at the active sheet. mep was open too, but had a GPF error prompt ... typical ... I've noticed my version too crashes at the worst of times.

I'm sure it wont , we still don't have all that info on the series 1 yet ;)

Roen 05-27-2013 08:40 PM

All in due time.....

M Pizle 05-31-2013 09:33 PM

I have a feeling a turbo kit for a Series 2 will not be cheap.... :uhh:

Well besides initial cost of R&D to make the kit fit in a series 2 it shouldn't be much different than a series 1 right? Tuning was and is the main issue, but there may be a few solutions to that now.

blu3dragon 06-10-2013 05:23 PM

OK, time for me to try this. First problem seems to be getting past my credit card fraud protection...

paimon.soror 06-10-2013 05:51 PM

been meaning to post an update here, but I am close to giving up on VT. They legit stopped communicating with me. The last thing i heard was that they were able to flash the ECU but managed to brick it during one of their QTP tests.

Haven't heard back since.....

Did they brick an actual ECU on a car or just a test ECU? I asked Epifan about the possibility of bricking during a flash and they just said they've never heard of it happening and not to worry. Hope they've done testing in regards to that...

paimon.soror 06-10-2013 07:24 PM

They bricked a test bench ECU. That is the only reason why I trust the guys over at VT because they let me know about their QTP process and how they have a bunch of tests to make sure that the software can recover from a bad flash (this is similar to what the AP has to help restore a bricked ECU). One of their many tests caused the ECU to brick. Wish I had an update though.

blu3dragon 06-10-2013 11:32 PM

Thanks for the update. Hopefully they get it figured out eventually but I've decided to go with mazdaedit now. I'm going to try not to think about dead ecus, but I will make sure I have backup power connected to everything during a flash...

blu3dragon 06-12-2013 01:24 PM

Looks like my OP is out for delivery today, so things are about to get interesting for me :-)

I've been reading this thread which seems to be a useful start: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-eng...-234580/page4/

I'm going to start with calibrating the MAF and also adjusting the throttle table more to my liking.

After that, I'll be installing a BHR mid-pipe, defeating the CEL and making sure there are no bad side effects before starting to tune the AFRs.

One question I have right now is whether it is also worth tuning the timing and if there are any good references as to what I should be aiming for there? I noticed reference to the cobb tune adjusting timing between leading and trailing plugs, and am just starting to parse through various threads on this...
