TLDR: This thread is essentially about what S2s got the Triangular Rear Fog light. Answer is Europe and Japan. Buying options for light are listed 4-5 posts down.
Heya, so my R3 fascia swap has evolved from just the front and sides to now including the rear cover and taillights.
However, I have a question for you S2 owners/experts. Is there more than one S2 rear bumper? Or are there just a lot of similar Aftermarket versions floating around.
Looking around at yards I find this bumper, the one I am expecting:
But looking further I see there is also this version with a rotor lower light included? Is this an OE bumper as well on this R3?
And again, another version. Also OE? Without the side flares obviously.
I actually like having the rotor in the rear bumper so I was curious what is and is not Mazda.

The first is an OEM R3 2009-2011 rear bumper.
Second is an OEM R3 bumper with an added rear led rotary light.. pretty sure the light came factory on the Japan models.. you can find the light on mazdaspeedstore.com around $500usd ..
The Third photo (white car) looks to be an S1 rear bumper based on the exhaust shrouds and no rear reflectors.. pretty sure this is a custom cut Mazdaspeed diffuser for S1 (2004-2008)

Ahh I see, so there are two versions from Mazda? Where the first is USDM?
I was just confused while researching as I could only find the first in yards. But kept seeing pictures of the second or third (fixed below)
A better picture of what I meant in the third photo (from a diy here), this is just mentioned as an R3 bumper but obviously not USDM. Shrouds match S2 but still has the center diffuser light.

That center light is OEM for Japan models as well as EU models as its a safety standard for them to have a rear fog light while USDM models didn't get that feature. If you want the rear fog light, you'll have to buy the assembly for it. Not sure if there is a different diffuser you need to purchase or if you need to cut a hold in the oem bumper though.
For S2 REAR Bumper ONLY 1
You may see some differences inside the Rear Bumper Forming as from about 2010 (memory) new Rear crash or Corner Crash
Requirements were mandatory in the USA for Rear Crashes.
Centre or Main REAR Bumper Steel was thicker and therefore heavier and stronger, a left and a right corner WING or end of Centre Bumper
(about 10 inches long) was established again for strength, previously only a foam piece was used on each end.
That is it for the Rear. For S2 FRONT BUMPER was and is Different.
Basically 5 different types.
1. For Standard cloth trimmed and NO Fog Lamps.
2. Then the Super Deluxe with Fogs and Xenon Headlamps with Headlamp Washer and WITHOUT HW.
3. The all of 2 and a lower air scoop for R3s WITH or Without Headlamp Washers.
IN Australia and UK/EU IF car has Xenon Headlamps then car MUST also have pop up Headlamp Washers,
so TWO Holes are done in top of FRONT Bumper for pop Up Nozzle Head (squirter).
Having installed that rear fog light before, the instructions are mostly straightforward, but you need to get another switch to make it work properly.
The switch that comes with the kit isn't a toggle switch. If you press it, it will spring back immediately as it was designed to send a signal to ECU to turn on/off the fog light. The US models have no such feature in the ECU, however. The manual will ask you to wire the switch to a wire that simply doesn't exist(or does something completely different).
What you need is a switch like this one, which is a toggle switch that will hold itself down when you press it.
Also, try to ask Mazmart if they have the non-DSC version. The DSC version combines the DSC and fog light switches as the Japanese RX-8 has a few more switches that are just blanks on the US models. We have the space to add another switch, and the non-DSC version is a bit easier to wire.

If a Mod sees this, can you please change thread name to “S2 Rear Bumper Versions & Rear Fog Light” should make it more descriptive to those searching.
