Does Series 2 stock deck (single slot CD) also play MP3 discs?
Hi, guys, trying to research options for a new RX8. I've seen references to the 6-disc CD deck on the Series 2 RX8 also being able to play MP3 discs. My question is: Anyone know if the single-CD deck will also play MP3 discs? Thanx!

It looks like there were MP3 options for both the single-disc and 6-disc decks. But not a simple tick-box option, no that would have been too easy. Instead, different models had different standard items, i.e. the base R3 had mp3, but the GT version didn't, and there was no way to change this (from the factory, at least). Basically you had to roll the dice.

Japan Series 2 RX8 CD player does NOT play MP3, single or 6disc changer. Only ones that can play are the non-BOSE 4speaker setup with Navigation system (play via Navigation deck). Series 1 RX8 (2003-2008) had 3 options for non-navigation cars (6disk CD changer, CD player or MP3 supported CD Player unit)
I've been scratching my head for a while on how to get MP3 support on this 2011 car that support only 80's technology. Unbelievable when it probably doesnt cost that much more to add mp3 support into the cd player. Wonder which a$$**** in Mazda decided this.
In japan, can get "bose translator" hardness/kit, and use that to hook up with after market audio unit or navigation system. However, still need to buy steering wheel remote transmitter, faceplate, 1DIN/2DIN plate etc to be able to use after market stuff, so cost before even buying after market audio/navigation system on these hardness/kits, is already around 400 usd.
I didnt want a navigation system because of the special curved shaped audio area and with a navi system installed, it looks very plain, boring with the msising ****. Nor do I want to have to look down, away from the road to look at the map. (perfer on-dashboard ones)
my cheapo solution now is hooking up a usb powered small bluetooth audio transmitter unit and a 2port usb/cigarette-plug adapter then play music via the AUX port inside the compartment of center arm rest area. (power both player and bluetooth transmitter via usb from within the compartment). drawback is cannot change track from the car audio deck or steering wheel remote (can only do volume/mute)
