Factory Bluetooth

Factory Bluetooth
Ok I've got a 2009 Touring so my car does not have factory bluetooth. Only the Grand Touring w/ Bose and the R3 also w/ Bose or if you have the touchscreen navigation system have them it I'm pretty sure.
Anyway I've got a 2010 Mazda3 rental car right now and I like the factory bluetooth in this car. I paired it to my android phone in less than a minute and now I can stream music to the factory stereo. I like this and was wondering (since I don't have it) is if you guys can do this feature with the RX-8 bluetooth as well.
I've been reading the 2009 Service Highlights, and it does not look like the Bose stereo or the regular stereo are any different internally. The Bose amps and speakers are all external and all the wiring is after the stock stereo. There is an external Bluetooth microphone and an external bluetooth module and that's it. I don't have my 8 right now (since its at the dealer) but I am going to look and see if it is already prewired for this bluetooth module. I'm wondering if I get the module and mic, (and possibly the different steering wheel button) will I be able to get the bluetooth to work.
SO, that's my question, are you guys streaming music from your phones to the stock stereo or is it just for making phone calls? If it's just for calls, I'll just stick to my headset.
Thanks,
Jack

I recently purchased a 2010 RX-8 Grand Touring with the Bluetooths.
The owners manual does make reference to the ability to stream music over BT, if your phone supports it. My older phone does not have this streaming ability, but like I said, the manual makes reference to it.

BUT on the way home I was thinking that it's a phone functionality issue not the stereo. The stereo is just listening for ones and zeros so if the phone wants to transmit the music data the stereo will play it.
So looks like I need to see if the wiring is already there in the car and start looking for wrecked series II.
This got me hoping cause it sure is neat! BTW congrats on the purchase! I've had mine for almost a full year now!
Thanks,
Jack

Somehow I locked my self out of my BT and have to call customer service. That was 4 months ago. . .
My phone on speaker wedged under the folded up visor works 100 times better than the factory BT. Just sayin...

No I want to play music through the stereo speakers not add the bluetooth talking headset feature. Thanks though.

There was another thread that said it did not have the right protocol, so I gave up even checking to try to add the bluetooth.

I'm working on a way of adding Bluetooth with A2DP protocol to the stock RX8 stereo.
I did this on my previous car (not a Mazda) and really miss the slick integration I had with my Android smartphone.
The A2DP is what you need to play your smartphone music through the cars stereo.
The upgrade is in 2 stages; stage 1 gives you everything but using a dongle with separate buttons for volume and track change etc, stage 2 gives you direct control using the stereo's own buttons but this is more intrusive & requires some mods to the stock stereo.
Will take a while, but will keep you posted...
if anyone is interested?
Cheers

ChikaFreak both the 2009 and 2010 have bluetooth but only the 2010 and newer have the A2DP protocol that allow you to play music on factory head wireless. Check your owners manual for more information and congrats on getting an R3 you'll love it.

Oh I already do love it! I have check the owners manual but with no success. My friend has a 2010 Mazda three and he has no problems. All he has to do is pair his phone and hit the media button twice.
For some reason i cannot get that to work. any other trouble shooting tips?
Thanks

I paired my friends Iphone 4 (I dont have a smartphone yet but want to get one if i can get this to work.)
I believe it has A2DP because he uses it in his ford escape.
It never asked the streaming question you are referring to. I have a feeling the 2010 doesnt have it which really stinks because like i said my friends mazda3 has it.
Or maybe like you asked is it just a firmware upgrade?

I downloaded the 2010 owners manual and there is no reference to streaming music which is weird because the 2010 smart start guide for the 2010 Rx 8 say it does. Sorry my friend but I don't think it does. You could go to the dealer and see what they say.

I poked around on mazdas site and they have a Bluetooth compatibility page. For every phone when you choose rx8 it says not available for "bluetooth audio". oh well im disappointed but hey my 8 will smoke my friends 3 anyday.
thanks for the help

I just bought a new RX8 2011 with navigation and Bluetooth, but that model wasn't at the dealership so I couldn't test it there. We tested a 2012 Mazda 6 with the same navigation and my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.3.5) and the Bluetooth Audio worked -- was able to play music from my phone. But when my RX8 arrived, the BT Audio icon was disabled on the navigation screen. During Bluetooth setup, the option about streaming audio didn't display.
So I'm getting the iPod integration module installed. I found on Mazda's Web site that iPhones ARE NOT supported, however. I couldn't find ANY phone compatible with BT Audio for my RX8, so I wrote to Mazda customer service (waiting for a response).
Does anyone know if the Bluetooth Audio through the navigation works for iPhone 4? I'm thinking about buying one and if it doesn't work, taking it back to AT&T since I believe you have 15 days to return it.

Bluetooth + iPhone doesn't work but iPod Integration Module works with iPhone
The dealer installed the iPod Integration Module and it works with my iPhone (even though it's officially "not supported" by Mazda). They installed the
F197 79 CFZ module and the harness kit (C9F5 V6 029) for the navigation model.
My iPhone (3GS) iOS is updated to 4.3.5.
I connect my iPhone in the glove compartment, and can control it through the navigation screen. I can see all of the data about the tracks as I can on my iPhone (playlists, artists, songs, podcasts, etc.). I can also control changing tracks and volume through the steering wheel. The module also charges my iPhone while the car is running.
It's too bad the Bluetooth wireless connection didn't work, but the iPod integration module works for me and sounds great through the Bose speakers.

I have a 2011 GT with NAV, and I was as disappointed as you to find that I couldn't stream music from my phone or control my iPod. I found this kit that brags advanced control and says it can do both. I haven't got it, but I might get it this Christmas. I'm a little hesitant due to the fact that I put a feeler on this fourm and nobody has given any reviews, good or bad.

I was also looking into that kit for the Bluetooth and the HD Radio. I don't use or have an iPod/iPhone.
But too much other stuff to buy that takes priority over this purchase.
So I just ended up buying a Belkin Bluetooth adapter from Amazon for like $50. I was about to just do a post about this actually. It will stream music from my phone and I am able to hear a caller over the speakers and it has a mic. It plugs into the audio jack in the center console. So far I'm pretty happy with it especially at the price! You guys have factory Bluetooth calling but I didn't so this is a nice cheap upgrade for me.
I'll do a post about it with pics hopefully soon.

I'm not sure I like the idea of having to play it through my aux jack. I get a lot of engine noise when I use that input. It kind of sounds like I'm running a blower. Plus, if I want to use that input, I can just plug the phone directly into it, no adapter needed.
#25
Thanks for the input guys,
the belkin bluetooth adapter sounds interesting. The only bluetooth adapters i have ever looked at hook up through USB not aux in. I am currently using a headphone to headphone cable to play music from my phone. it winds up and i got it for 99 cents and free shipping from ebay, not bad. it works out ok because i just got the droid Razr and I plug the phone in to the charger everytime i get in the car anyway, so plugging the aux-in in doesnt become a big deal.
Id look into getting the full aftermarket bluetooth kit but I'd rather spend that money on the series II Race Roots eyelids haha
for now i'm going to look into burning some mp3 CDs
