Factory iPod connector won't charge iPod!

Hey guys. I just bought an old 4th gen iPod nano to use in my car and, although it works fine, it doesn't charge the iPod. I did some research and found out that Apple changed the power pins with the 2008 and newer iPods. So I got myself an adapter that converts the current from the old pin to the new pin, and it still doesn't work! In fact, with the adapter, it doesn't even play songs!

Anyone have a workaround for this? Tying to save a few bucks and not buy an older iPod

In an RX-8? I'm confused. My 2009 RX-8 has no iPod connector of any kind that I'm aware of. It just has the standard audio in jack, which cannot charge a device. Is this something they added in 2010 or 2011?

My car has a 30 pin iPod connector in the glove compartment. Mine is a 2012 though.

At is an add-on, but when Apple changed the pins, the charge functionality went away. This is not an issue with just Mazda, the same thing happened to my Xterra.

Yep. But the factory Ipod adapter sucks anyway. I got rid of it for the sylfex auxmod and it is way better. I even use a GoGroove bluetooth adapter with it that works great.
