RX8 in dash nav kit replacement

I hope this is the correct location for this thread.

I have a 2010 Sport RX-8 and i am looking for a good in dash nave kit. I don't want any ones that pop up like the Mazda one (Personal Preference) i want one that will replace the CD player and other radio controls.

Here is a Link to one that i found that is made only for RX8's but is noted as a series 1 model:

Mazda RX-8 DVD Player, Mazda RX-8 Navigation System, Mazda RX-8 GPS DVD, good choice for your car

I have sent the company a request for information to see if the unit can work with a series 2 but have not heard back.

Does anyone know if this kit would work with a series 2 or is there any other kits like this specifically made for the series 2 model?

no that will not fit in an S2 unless you remove the unit from the trim, and get yourself an S2 metra kit.

Also, the OEM navigation for the S2 does not "pop up"

Lastly, it would be not only cheaper, but more reliable than that cheap chinese crap to get :

Pioneer AVIC X920BT 6 1 inch Car DVD Player Nav 884938104241 | eBay

and a metra kit

What he said! Or, if you want a new head unit, I just bought the Pioneer AVIC-X940BT off of Amazon for $526 new. Damn good deal.

Good luck

I see that you also got new steering wheel controls and a new harness.

Will this unit not work with the existing media toggles on the left side of the steering wheel?

As for the harness that's just a converter to hook everything up from the RX8 wiring to be able to use the Pioneer harness plug correct?

Also for some reason in your post i think some of the pic's are not loading. i only see the ones of the pioneer unit the others that people are talking about are not shown. can you please re-post them here or back on your thread?

Kind of a novice at vehicle electronics can you tell?? LOL but i am a very fast learner.

Awesome! That is *exactly* what I purchased (well, part of it, we're doing a whole system in my son's R3) except for one thing.

The wiring harness I bought the Metra 70-7903T. I think most people end up choosing this one. The difference is the "T" version of the harness adds an "extra" dongle that usually stays tucked up out of view. It's used to hook up the OEM radio to reset the clock anytime the battery should be disconnected or for the time change.

Unless the stock clock doesn't matter to you, you might consider changing your order to this harness.

Good Luck, post pics... gonna be an awesome setup!

Cool

Post some pics of the method your suggesting if you could please.

paimon.soror made a DIY on using an OBDII Cable and the stock radio. you just plug it in turn it on, off, unplug and hook the new system back up and your G2G.

I would like to see if someone can figure out what card to pull out of the stock radio. Solder it up and wire it. Mount it in behind the dash some place and put the clock buttons in the ashtray and zip-ti them some where so you can flip open the little door and just change the clock. That's what i would like to see but i don't have the know-how to figure it out.
I wouldn't think it would be to hard to do would it?

Ok i am taking pics as i go for a diy but i need a little help.

everything on the end of the new nave kit works like a champ.

BUT I have the AXXESS steering wheels control and i cant get it to work. I have the G/W wire hooked in to Pin 1N (Red/Black wire) and the other plug (Looks like a head phone jack) in to the Controls slot on the AVIC X 940BT. but all i get when i go to start the install process us the red led comes on and then turns off after illuminated for about 3 sec.

Please Help!!!

here is what i am looking up to connect the wires.

I saw your other thread that said you're complete. Did you get your issue worked out? if so, what was it and how did you correct it? Answers to questions like these in these threads are really valuable resources when the "next guy" comes through searching when he/she has a similar problem.

My problem was the AXXESS controls. i had the G/W wire from the AXXESS computer hooked in to the G/W wire in the Vehicle harness. This was incorrect.

In the AXXESS controls guide it says that you need to connect the G/W wire to Pin 1N. The wire in Pin 1N on the vehicle harness is not G/W like i thought. It is Red/Black. The G/W wire that i was connected to is for Pin 1P so I moved it over.

Then you need to take some extra wire and tap the G/W wire form Pin 1P on the vehicle harness and tap it in to the Vehicle ground.

i did that and hit the reset button on the AXXESS controls box and it programed itself.

I will be doing a DIY and will Have a lot of Pictures this weekend.

PS: i still have one small problem the AC button is pinched some how and it stuck depressed any idea on how to wiggle it out without removing everything?

reinaldo1982 - you posted this in the wrong thread, an 04 is an S1 Rx8, try posting in the S1 section for better results as the nav systems are completely different.
