Who would like to give the latest update a shot. I didn't post it up yet since I know it is a pain in the *** for those of you to flash and flash and flash again lol. Usually Russ tests em out for me but I know he is having some PC issues.

If you want to try this one, just download and rename from .zip to .hex

Haha...that's me.

I've been watching this thread closely and just waiting for the right time to flash. I've only played with the RXDuino once since I got it.

I appreciate all the work you guys are doing!

OO!

Now, I am hoping, if you disconnect the RxD does the radio start to display again?

I'll give this a shot as soon as I get home.

I bought a Pioneer Appradio 2 (which is a godawful, terrible terrible terrible radio) and will be sticking it in this weekend - paimon, will I need a different firmware if I do not have the stock radio installed, or will any of these firmwares work?

Is the firmware you are using for your own car bulletproof?

you wont need another firmware, so far this latest firmware sounds like it is a 'everyone use' firmware. I will tidy it up a bit more as I have disabled the "is cruise control on?" check until i got the users with OEM radios up and running. Other than that, yes I have like no issues running the firmware on my car. It will be great to confirm with you once you get the HU installed.

I tried this firmware, with varying results...
  • First attempt, when I turned on the ignition, none of the pre-check lights went out! The alarm/immobiliser light stayed flashing red, and the car would not start!
  • The RxD was displaying RPM though; but did seem to be "fighting" with the OEM radio display.
  • Had to switch-off un-plug (tested ignition procedure with RxD disconnected - but not starting engine), then re-tried with RxD plugged in.
  • This time it worked OK, and had taken over the display as usual - no radio controls displayed when changing discs, volume etc. (not sure what the intention is going to be here?)
  • After turning the engine on, but not driving, I started to experiment with the "random switching". I cannot relate this to pushing clutch, or shifting the gear lever (obviously could not let clutch go in gear as I was stationary) as I had suspected, but it still jumped randomly into other modes or between ECU displays on occasion - but perhaps a little less so than before.

Tried out 7/8 12:49pm update....

-Fighting largely persists in ECU monitor, MPG, Wheel Speed with radio winning. Other modes, RxD wins with some intermittent blinks.
-Strangely the RxD cycles through through monitors with no button presses, i.e. I start in ECU (RPM), after 1-2 minutes it'll move to MPG, 1-2 minutes later move to Wheel Speed, and again to Wheel Pressure where it will stay.
-RPM sometimes displays single digits (5-16) running through the monitors.
- + button works .... 5% of the time. I hold it down/push/scream till it moves.
- Alternate mode is difficult to get into. As soon as "cancel" is push, the display cycles. (may be due to the update speed?)

Slowly getting there!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have been spending most of my hours after work refining the firmware to handle communications with the oem radio. In doing this I have been able to tidy up loose ends in the code so hopefully I am killing a few birds with a stone here.

The cancel issue is actually due to my disabling of the cruise control status check. The reason I did this is to remove one variable from the fighting issue. I will restore this functionality as soon as I can.

After my unusual instance above, I noticed the CEL was on... RxD did not read the codes ( :-( )...

So plugged in my trusty OBD/CAN reader to read and clear them:
U0155 - Communication Error to Instrument Cluster
U0121 - ABS HW/CM (with ABS) or DSC HU/CM (with DSC) communication error
U0167 - Communication error to keyless control module

Not sure if this was "caused" by the RxD - but of course it was plugged in when I had that malfunction yesterday (and never seen those codes before on my car)...

ah, yea I had those codes before, they will go away in a day, that is just reporting the CAN "fighitng". I am surprised the RxD didn't detect those. So did the CEL come on with the latest firmware ? I have a newer one coming real soon.

Yes, they appeared when I had the strange instance (dash lit like christmas) when first trying latest Firmware... (I did not notice the CEL until driving without the RxD today).
Checked them and cleared with another reader.
RxD Read "MiL: none" if I recall correctly.

So - the CAN "display" output may also be fighting with the instrument cluster?

Ideally - I'd like this to work "in cooperation" with Radio/BT - e.g. if track changed, volume - or incoming call - the Rex displays it's message for a few seconds, then the RxD returns. Don't mind if tracks being played etc. are overwritten - but how you can "distinguish" different message types etc. is anybody's guess!

Took out the stock radio today, and tried the rxduino with no success. All I get is a blank screen with no display and no data.

I tried

RxDuino2009Only.hex
RxDuino_7_4_2012_05_32_pm.hex
RxDuino_7_5_2012_09_32_pm.hex

Radio installed is a Pioneer Appradio 2.

Alright guys sorry for the long wait. So it looks like I figured out why some of you arent seeing any trouble codes. Looks like when you do a "DTC" request on the rx8, it only returns emissions (P) DTC's.

Working real hard to get this new firmware out for you guys.

Hey Paimon, thanks for the continued work.

Sorry to drop a problem earlier and then go days without checking, unavoidable work issues.

At any rate, I got the console working to update firmware anyway, and have tried all of them posted. 2009 is still the best one, but that's just because it shows something when I plug it in. Cancel is difficult to use as posted earlier, + button rarely works, and it seems when I get to the bottom of the list of whatever, its stuck and can't get any + functionality. My ecu monitor is stuck on RPM, and only has digits, no label , i.e. RPM:

Looking forward to trying the next firmware update.

BTW now without stock HU, and can't get the time to edit either. Running the Pioneer App radio 2, which is working fine for me.

Are you able to see the time? I had disabled the time editing for those that couldn't see any text because I didn't want them to accidentally change stuff (i wanted to make sure that no one was sending messages to the screen).

I have the same exact issues as him, but I never disconnected the battery so that time is intact. I guess whenever I decide to disconnect the battery, I'll find out.

Yea I am sorry for not mentioning that. I disabled it so that I didn't get any comments like "i can't see anything on the screen, but I managed to set my clock 3 hours forward, wtffff" lol.

Anyway, I drove to work today testing the new firmware. Looks like it is more fluid which is nice, hopefully those of you with radios will see the same thing. Expect it out tonight.

I can see the time, but like amdhunter, I didn't disconnect the battery during radio install. Also, editing text is problematic at best. I still can't get console commands to work, and tried to edit the text in car. Was able to get into edit mode (takes good timing) but the +button wouldn't work, and I couldn't tell which character was active until it changed. I could -down, but it reached an "end" and then couldn't go back up.

So since I have no console command functionality, and the car editing is challenging, it now says Rok a Ow?? on start up everytime.

Update, sorry for the delay again, today I noticed with my OBD2 scanner that I had two "P" codes (catalyst and misfire). The RxDuino only showed the catalyst code. Going to make some tweaks to make sure that I show all stored codes instead of just the first one.

Not sure if in the meantime you guys want to test out the "+" button and the Display responsiveness on this one. Please note that it may not display the ECU monitor data (rpm, maf, etc).

Dont forget to rename from .zip to .hex

Latest update made it worse for me. Now all I get is RPM: flashing intermittently.

Just put up a nightly. Lots of changes with this one. This one is VERY fluid on my car and I am hoping that it works for you guys with radios too.

RxDuino_7_17_2012_06_04_pm.hex

Changes:
- Now using both chip buffers. Before was just using 1. This should increase read efficiency
- Enabled chip filters. I set filters so that the chipset ONLY reads PID's that are setup. This will not only decrease load on the RxDuino, but increase read efficiency, speed, and responsiveness
- Increased mode delay. Now when you change modes it should display the mode text a tad bit longer.

Not seeing the firmware from today on the site, and its not linking here for me. Flashed yesterdays from console, and this is what I get when I connect after flash. Haven't tried it in the car yet, been crazy. Just repeats everything after |||RPM:||| on the console.
