Advanced Key problems

I've had my '09 rx8 since July 09 and I've bee recently getting some issues with the advance key. Sometimes it won't open the car, or if it does open the car, it won't start the engine. Anyone else facing the same problem?

Do both keys do the same thing?

Have you checked the battery?

I find mine almost never works if it's anywhere near my iphone or my wallet. (fat stack of credit cards lol)

It uses low freq radio waves (i think) so anything electronical or magnetic may distort the signal.

Your manual tells you how to change the battery if that's not the problem.

Ha ha, I'll make it quick.... Well, this big nor'easter came through Va in Nov of last year.... Storm surge rose sea level like 20'. Wasn't prepared (no idea what a nor'easter was. Lol. Hell, still not certain ;-P) and the insurance agency wrote them off as 'flooded' since water came up over the dash....

Now that I think about it, I used the wrong term on this forum, where we're more likely to experience a much different meaning of the word...lol.

Had the same problem with my 06 over a year ago while still under warranty, Mazda had to replace all the receiving antennas in the car. But I suggest replacing both fob's batteries first to see if this resolves the issue. I personal keep spare battery in the car now at the first sign of issues I replace the battery.

P.S. If it is the antennas it may that a while to get parts, most dealers do not keep them in stock. my 8 was in the dealer for 9 days, but they gave me a 3 as a loaner.

many people put the key in the wallet and put the wallet in the back pocket and sit on it which is pretty bad cuz it bends the key and the circuit inside.

I usually wear jeans, and put the key in the "little" pocket. I never have issues. I also got Mazda to flash my key for AutoLock, and it's great... Especially when you go to meets.

I have the same issue. Called Mazda, they told me to bring all of my keys to them, they will reprogram them (assuming this is the issue). Mine often does not open the car or refuses to open the trunk.

Hey guys,

So for the delayed response. I took it to the dealer and they said the key was messed up and they gave me a new key and reprogrammed the key. That's after they charged me for batteries just to see if that was the probably. I probably should look into getting some spare batteries for the key.
