Antenna System for AKE Card Type Key (S2)
I have been asked about this before, so here it is.
There are 10 different Antennae used in the Series 2 RX-8 for AKE (Advance Key-less Entry) Card Type Key set up.(Series 1 is similar, but NOT exactly the same)
These are used as receivers for the Card Type Key functions.
*1 Ring Antenna used around the Steering Lock or Switch (one of two iterations#).
*1 Ring Antenna used for Immobilizer.
*7 Antenna used around the Car (two in trunk/bumper, two under dash, two for doors, one in rear)
#Different Part/Number before and after October 1, 2010 Production.
In some circumstances a defective or dirty Antenna will cause a AKE malfunction, either a clean of 'a' unit (suggest Trunk/Bumper units), renew the Card Batteries or replacement of 'a' unit may fix an issue, in many cases a trip to a Mazda Dealer is required to diagnose which unit.

Happy to help Series 1 (AKE) Owners which uses the same/similar system, however not all the parts are exactly the same as Series 2, if you identify which Antennae you need please supply or PM me your VIN Number for correct Part Number and Part.
NOTE: Normal Switchblade Key (Key-less Entry) or Standard Turn Key in Series 1 and Series 2 DOES NOT use this exact Antennae system shown above.

Very nice!
I had an issue with the rear antenna on my car a while ago fortunately covered under warranty. I have however noticed later occasional hiccups in sudden outdoor weather changes (i.e. sudden cold or wet day) where the trunk would randomly pop open when walking by, or becomes unresponsive entirely (this is how the problem started previously). I may need to make use of your help sometime in the future if things get worse.

You're like an OEM part number super hero. Not that I need this antenna info now but it is so much easier to call the dealer with a part number than trying to explain **** to them sometimes

Nice, I was wondering how that was setup.
I had one issue about a month ago where I pushed the drivers door unlock button on the handle and started the car w/o the key. Drove about a mile and all of a sudden it gave me the red icon for no key in car on the dash. My gym bag with the key in it was in the back seat. I have the same daily orientation coming home from work with the key in the back seat in my briefcase. I pulled the gym bag to the passenger seat and the icon kept flashing. Then all of a sudden it stopped and all was normal. Never happened again. Otherwise it is a sweet setup coming from a Civic...
Thanks ASH!
