Dont know whats wrong, im not driving it, but if it is the starter save yourself a fortune, half the fun of owning a fun car is working on it (my opinion). Also something as simple as a starter can be replaced with a few basic tools and a little time, save yourself the fortune and do it yourself, trust me, you'll pay 2x or more to have someone do it for you.

That would be one option, and I don't know exactly what it would cost, but it wouldn't be cheap since it is the "stealership" after all lol. Another option would be DIY. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but here's a link to how to replace it yourself, and it looks pretty easy. Another option would be to take it to some other skilled mechanic besides the dealership if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. I would do it for you, but I doubt you're in the nashville area like me lol

Thanks guys for your input. One more stupid question, how do I confirm that its a starter problem and not something like flooding issue ? Also, fingers crossed if the power goes on properly tomorrow, is it fine to drive with it ? Please let me know.

Because if it doesn't do anything but click when you turn the key, then the starter isn't engaging. If it was a flood issue the starter would turn over and over repeatedly but the engine wouldn't start. And no, I wouldn't drive it. Just because it starts one time doesn't mean it will start the next time. Faulty starters are very unpredictable

According to Cars.com, the original bumper to bumper warranty was 36MO/36,000 miles and power train is 60MO/60,000 miles. It should be covered, I would consider a starter as part of the powertrain.

Mazda does not consider the starter as part of the powertrain. Replacement starters due to failure are only covered under bumper to bumper.

a good deal even with shipping.

FYI - Late '05s (through 2009 model years) Series 1, and all series 2 R3s, came with the upgraded starter.

Good luck mate.

It's the battery connections.

It's always the battery connections.

He said he tried to jump it, but if his command of electrical principles is as weak as his command of the English language, he didn't do it right.

He mentions that after boosting it and failing to get it going, it started. You do the math.

Could be bad brushes, but my money is on nasty corroded clamps.....

Howdies,

Thanks for your precious feedback guys. After facing the same problem on Friday, I took the beast for a battery check up. The readings were bad and I replaced it with a new one. Now it doesn't crank longer to get started.

I was using antique jumper cables which weren't holding onto the battery properly. That might be reason for not being to jumpstart initially.

I am wondering if I still need to be concerned about starter or plugs or flooding issues ?

Again thanks everyone.
