New 2010 rx8 not using any oil at all???

Hi Everyone,

I just want to make sure I am not missing anything...

My new sled has about 2700 miles on it (bought on June 30) and it has not used any oil at all.

I have the oil changed at 500 miles (stick read at the full line before the oil change)

I have the oil changed at 1500 miles (stick read at the full line before the oil change)

I keep checking the oil (every day) and it has not gone down at all.

I just want to make sure that this is not some strange problem (my oil pump not sending oil into the places it is supposed to go to be consumed while driving for example).

Any thoughts,
Yogi

How hard do you drive the car? How often is it redlined?

At one track day, I can go through close to a quart of oil.

I have only had to add two quarts with 7k miles on the car. Changed the oil at 1k miles and getting ready to change it again...but not near the one quart per 1k miles I was told.

Just curious as to why you changed the oil at 500 then again at 1500? Seems kind of excessive.

Probably it's overfilled. And the engine is just now broken in the seals are still tight. The oil fill needs to be a bit below the full mark.

Look, Just make sure you STICK to the same Routine and Location to check your OIL...

You won't necessarily see your oil go down "each" day..

This is what I do...
I Check on Stone Cold Engine, next day...the Correct FULL is about 5 mil or 1/4 inch BELOW the F mark on Series 2's...when COLD, when Hot after the '5 min turn off' it will be ON THE F MARK.

Make sure your car is on a flat and level surface.

I have done 30,000 KMS or 18,000 Miles and use about ONE Litre or a Quart every 3000 miles.

Depending upon driving conditions many people can ge 1500 miles.

Then the next time you drive it you get 800 miles per quart.

It all depends upon driving conditions.

Just keep checking it.

Razz is right...a lot does depend on "your" driving style, high RPM and or Load will use more engine oil..

IMO, I think it is good to check your oil in the same place and environment (when and where you can)..

I check the oil level every 1000 miles when I arrive home and the engine is at operating temperature ( per the factory manual ). Mine is an automatic and higher geared than a manual, so the engine turns slower at cruising speed. So, it's been using about one-third of a quart every thousand miles, sometimes less, depending on the type of driving.

A Much Different Control and Totally Different Supply Beast in the Series 2's. 2009-2010.

A far better system, with obviously similar in Load..

All I ever get is frothy scum which does not let me get an accurate reading. The garage guyn said give it a hot run to clear the scum but 100 miles at around 70 mph has made no difference. Any advice would be welcome as I am worried about this problem

In a Series II RX-8??, that is 2009, and 2010 Model Year?

This is a Series 2 Sub Forum.

I suggest you try a SEARCH of key word "froth" (link at page top /\) and look in the 11th thread down.

Done some work for you seeing you are a noob.

Click on this link, download TSB, it is all there, the FIX KIT is $245.00US.
