Tapping!?

SSV actuator arm. Put your finger on it and it will go away. No real fix for it other than replacing it. Mine came and went, I just dealt with it until I pulled the engine.

Yea I found the arm and whilst the noise was occurring I pushed the arm in, the noise stayed but someone also mentioned to put my finger on it but I didn't understand that. My engine has just been rebuilt 450miles ago!

I also have the same exact noise. Taking her to mazda to have them take look tomorrow. Also seems like there's a lack of power, not sure if it's related. An overall lack of power, not falling off or anything. Doesn't pull like she should

Hi Luke, It is indeed the SSV - I demoed my "Diesel" sounds last time I was around yours. The shaft can be seen in the small gap on the left & you may just be able to squeeze a hand in there and put a finger on the shaft... The noise stops.
It engages at 3750RPM - and that should also be observable with somebody increasing revs... The noise typically disappears when actuated... (Or is completely drowned out with other sounds!).
I doubt the vacuum actuators are replaced as part of the rebuild process, unless obviously broken.
