Did you ever figure out what was wrong with the OBD2 Port? I'm having problems getting any codes and my car will not crank and the security light flashes.
Thanks

He longer visits the site but I can answer the question because the car he was working on at my house. It never got fixed, the issue could not be resolved and it was getting more expensive than it was worth so the car is now a parts car. We suspect the only way to fix it would be to start replacing harnesses and modules and that was going to be too costly.

A possible solution
I had a no communication situation like this. I used a Power Probe Master kit to diagnose the issue. The master kit has a line tracer which can also determine the condition of a circuit.(Open/Short to ground)
In my case the data pin in the obdll connector was showing a short to ground. So the Pcm must be having this issue too.
The tool will send a signal through the wire and with the tracer you can follow the signal to find where the signal ends. In my situation the signal led me to a airbag sensor module. It was under the drivers seat and also under the vinyl flooring . The owner of this Chevy van sold fish for a living. Salt water would slosh around on the floor. I did not remove the PCM for tracing down this short.
In any case the line tracer portion of the Power Probe has help me solve many a electrical issue.
If the security light flashes the ignition switch is not recognizing the key. This could be a worn key, a bad ignition switch or the PCM just needs to relearn the correct key. I always diagnose with tests before throwing parts at a problem.

Yep, like the R3 of Denny's which 9K a you bought for parts, the car was a flood wreck, so possible it was a corrosion issue which finally prevented the car from motoring, even though it was all good the day before.
And yes, it can become very expensive either at a Dealer or privately to renew electric modules in the hope that it configures OK, a good wiring loom wire tracer/tester is a very handy tool to have.
I miss Denny around here, a great bloke, always with good info.

Rx8 manual for those looking to solve the problem
Recently acquired a rx8 project car... had some issues.... believe I found them, one being backup light switch was shorting out, two being the ignition switch giving power to accessories relay. Previous owner used 30amp fuse instead of factory 15 amp fuse for ignition. They probably did that to keep it running since the backup switch was so bad. Now I have yet to install the ignition switch but feel it will solve my battery drain issue once I do so. My other speculation is it probably won't solve my obdll issue. I will post results later as I just got the switchs today. Another thing to keep in mind is car starts and cranks over.
If anyone one wants to help out, let me know send a p.m. with a email link so I can get you that info.
