09 Springs?

I just tried calling the Mazda dealership and asking them to cross reference the part numbers for both the Series I and Series II springs on the front/rear and of course they are different part numbers all together...not just the A, B, C... appending to the end of the part number. After the parts dept, I talked to the service department and they had NO IDEA if the springs were the same.....so now I'm turning to the forums.

Any ideas?

I believe people have used the tein s-tech's for the S1's and they worked for the drop at least.

personally I'd wait until something was designed for the S2 - but then I'm *gasp* more interested in performance than how dropped the car is. It's amazing how many people bought such a well balanced cornering machine, yet the first thing they want to do is drop it 1.5 inches and throw on a staggered wheel setup with more rubber than the n/a motor knows what to do with...

Racing Beat, at least, lists the same springs (and dampers) for Series II as Series I.

The shocks are changed. 09 springs will work with earlier model shocks. Ive done it. So earlier model springs will work with 09 shocks.

i'm not sold. will work, doesn't equate to will work well.

I am curious as to why RB sells the set for the 04-08, but the individual springs come as the same item for the S2's and S1's...

do it - and let us know how it works.

Auto-x the car with the stock springs, then do it again on the aftermarket ones to see the difference and come back w/ a report

the lower spring perch is mounted higher on the 09 rear shocks, which will correct the rear end being too low that most aftermarket springs have

Team, didn't you specifically have a thread discussing this with some Koni's?

I forgot exactly what your results were though lol.

The spring pearch is not an issue if you are using the stock shocks. the spring pearch is lower because the lower mounting point is higher. the spring is the same, so the same lower will be achieved.
Coilovers went on last night and everything went well.

Well the issue Team discussed was with the Shocks. I was, and am hoping he will shed some light on if that is a problem for using 04-08 designed Coilover setups on 09+s.

I just installed coilovers that were for 04-08 and it really wasn't an issue. You start out 15mm lowered in the rear. Just have to compensate for it in the adjusting of the spring pearch.

I wasn't worried as much about the height but if the shock would sit properly. Guess so. Thanks

Does that mean that if I swapped the rear shocks from a 2009 in my 2004, it would increase my rear ride height?

By like 1/4" there's a for sale thread by a guy selling modified Koni yellows for an 09 and he has side by side pictures of the different perch height.

is this true?

nice info there. this would be a nice nifty solution for me...
that means aftermarket shocks for 2009 will also accomodate those dimensions.

i hate seeing rear end sag on seriesI when the shocks are about to go from overloading. and this is also a solution for rear fender rub issues.

nice. anything else?

The difference is more like 15mm, which is a little over 1/2". But the suspension is changed on the 09. Same spring is used, just different lower mounting point in the rear. I sent my rear shock to koni and they were raised 15mm.
They are for sale if anyone is interested. Will be going up on ebay in a few days.
