Brake Issues?

I don't think I'm too hard on my brakes. I actually tend to use engine braking a lot more than some of my friends; however, my brakes are making a very strange noise. Like metal to metal grinding. They never "squeaked" or anything as they would if my brakes needed replacing, but the FL and RR wheels recently started making this god-awful noise.
Its been about 2 weeks now, even after cleaning, pulling the pads and wiping, feeling the rotors themselves, etc. There aren't any gouges (yet?), nor does there seem to be a problem with the actual brake performance.

Anyone have any input?

oem pads? If your pads are within spec, it might be time to give them another re-bedding. Take her out on the road and take her to 40mph with hard braking down to 10mph. Repeat a few times.

So i only have about 15,560 Mi on my S2 RX8. Either my Drivers side front or rear is making a little squeak almost like when they need to replace the break pad. I did 1 PDX event this summer so it shouldn't have put to much extra wear on them, i mean not enough to need new break pads at 15K mi should it????

Let me know what you think. I am going to pull the wheels off and take a look at the pads to see if i can find the culprit after work today.

Take a look at the pads just for the sake of checking, but OEM pads are notorious for squeaking.

Does it go away after they get warmed up or is it consistant? Mine squeak (sounds like a bus stopping) now that it's getting colder and western WA has got to be warmer than IL.

Same problem here. I get a squeak as if my brakes are done. I can't really tell if it's the front or back, but it seems to only happen in cold weather.

I actually had service done at Mazda just this morning and asked about new pads. I am at 16700 miles and the pads are all at about 50%.

Sort of pissing me off since I don't really brake that hard. I am going to go ahead and jam the brakes a few times to see what's up.

My grinding sound quit as well now i only have a squeak :-/ I think mines from getting grease on the rotor though from my hands. I'm just too lazy to pull the beake pads and resurface them lol

Mine squeal pretty good for a couple hours after an autox event or after a spirited drive. Ive pretty much accepted the fact that since they work so well, they are allowed to bitch about it when I beat on them.

Sigh my driver side front brakes squeal after I the dealership I bought the rx 8 from said they replaced them before they sold me the car. SO I checked the pads, they still have a lot of padding.. So Im thinking about replacing the rotors and getting new break pads. Hopefully that stops the squeal!
