2004 Mazda RX-8 Sport
Year: 2004
Make: Mazda
Model: RX-8
Price: $4500
Mileage: 133000
Color: Velocity Red Mica
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (US State/Canada/Int): OH
Anyway, moving on. Unlike craigslist, I would assume you guys know what you're looking for and what's going on with RX-8s, so I can cut out about 90% of my ad.
Basics:
-Sport
-Velocity Red Mica
-133k mileage (hit this morning)
-6-speed manual
-best I can tell, original motor. I haven't seen it, but I'm told the Car Fax or AutoCheck or whatever shows nothing about motor replacement. It shows a rear-end accident in 2011, which was prior to my ownership. Guy I bought it off of disclosed this, said that bumper was repaired because of the accident. I would assume it wasn't replaced, as the faint residue on the plastic panels on the rear bumper has been visible since I purchased it.
Stock except for:
-RX8Performance cooling fan kit (installed summer 2013, haven't seen temps over 190 since)
-RX8Performance aluminum undertray (because my co-driver kept taking the plastic ones for the STX car) and auxiliary cooling system kit, which I haven't installed, because I have no clue how to.
-GROM Audio Bluetooth adapter
-tint (27% according to the ticket I received last winter) - installed by a previous owner
-reupholstered leather seats (also done by a previous owner)
The good:
In 39,000+ miles of ownership, I've had relatively few problems. According to my logs on Torque, I get between 16-21 MPG, depending on how and where I drive. I make sure to hit redline at least once a day.
The car was flooded the first winter I had it, because I kept it in storage at my shop, and the other two guys I share shop space with were moving it around short distances and shutting it off. Other than that, never has flooded. Replaced spark plugs about a month ago, air filter (K&N) two weeks ago, and coils last week.
The bad:
Minor damage to front end. While I'd like to think that on August 13, 2013, my car decided to make it her mission to destroy every boring vehicle on the planet, what really happened is that I left the car in neutral and forgot to pull the parking brake up, and it rolled into a co-worker's Buick. I would be willing to put in a claim for repairs if you split the $500 deductible.
Air conditioning doesn't work. I haven't tried diagnosing it.
Temperature **** is finicky. Sounds common for these cars?
Occasionally pulls P0420. I did get it to pass emissions this past summer, only to discover I wasn't due for a test until 2014. Oops.
Coolant sensor light comes on every once in awhile. Coolant levels appear to be fine.
The front tires are Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, with approximately 12,000 miles on them. The rear tires are Falken Azenis with over 40,000 miles, and really should be replaced.
Other stuff:
To the best of my knowledge, the car has seen little or no snow. With 94k put on it in the first 7 years, I don't think the previous owners drove it in the winter. The only time I've driven it in the snow was when I went out somewhere with clear weather, and was caught off guard and got stuck having to limp home. I'd say probably 10-20 miles total. Any time I've had to work on the car, bolts come off easily, so there's none of the hassle that comes with dealing with cars that have been exposed to salt. The pile of rust in my shop that was my 2001 Mazda Protege MP3 is the reason I'm glad this is the case.
That being said, I was planning on driving the car this winter. I have a second set of OEM wheels (one or two of them are in kinda rough shape), and a set of 245/40/18 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 snow tires that I bought on craigslist. These would come with the car. I also have an unopened set of Hawk HP+ brake pads, these would be extra.

Asking $4,500. I figure maybe I'll have better luck here than I have outside of the RX-8 community, where I get nothing but "LOL UR MOTOR IS GOING TO BLOW UP CUZ ROTORY" or "two thousand takes it tonight". Uh, no it doesn't, guy.
No compression numbers, but I might get that done in the near future just to alleviate any concerns.

Update: I gutted the cat last week (can provide a used OEM one if buyer requires one to pass emissions), mounted the snow tires (haven't driven *in* the snow yet, since I worked from home the one day it has snowed since then, and I wasn't about to go driving through salt if I didn't have to), changed fluid in diff and tranny, and cleaned fuel sock. The driver's seat belt buckle is starting to malfunction, I'll be replacing that with a used one for obvious safety concerns. Mileage is like 133,800.

Thanks. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to the dealer. I was offered 4k trade (on the premise that the cat would be replaced with a functional one upon delivery) when I bought my Mazda 3 a couple of weeks ago, but pulled it from the transaction at the last second because I bought the snow wheels and tires, and dammit, I wanted to drive this car in the snow. I did so on Saturday and it was an absolute blast (and this car is a total rocketship compared to the 3!), but I cannot afford both cars any longer, so I'm trying to arrange for a late sale with them. If anyone has serious interest, please contact me by tomorrow evening.

I could, but I don't know why you'd want to. I'd have to get a new hose to replace where I cut to install the cooling fan adapter, I don't have a replacement undertray for the aluminum one, and the Bluetooth adapter is hidden.

OK, the coolant fan kit is removed (I detached the piece that has the sensor going to the fuse relays, and the hose is connected via the two fittings that go with the sensor), replaced the aluminum undertray with the plastic one, and replaced the Grom Audio Bluetooth adapter with the non-Bluetooth model, so it only has 3.5mm and USB connections.
Willing to take $3800 for it as it sits, with one set of wheels/tires, your choice. The snow wheels are a bit rougher and don't have TPMS, the summer wheels are the ones in the photos, but have bald rear tires.
No idea the compression numbers, but after driving my new 3 for two weeks, any time I hop in the RX-8, it feels like the fastest thing I've ever driven. I'm going to miss this car but it needs to go.
