Hey guys seen a few different videos of the new rx vehicle coming for 2017. The first I watch was of a four door car that was pretty close to the lines of the rx-vision
The next car I seen was way closer to a lotus than anything resembling an rx car of the past
And I seen another picture that really resembles the rx8
I have to say I would've really liked the vision concept car to become a reality. That long hood just hypnotizes me. I also really hope it's not the lotus styled car. To me Mazda would be betraying the heritage of the rx series of cars if that ugly thing was released.
I doubt there will be another production vehicle with a rotary engine due to the emissions requirements unless there is a new type of rotary engine.
That would be one of the best kept secrets ever.
I can't imagine what they could do to clean the existing engine's emissions.
I guess it's possible.
I'll believe it when I see it.

And yet, why did Mazda unveil the Rx-vision unless they are confident that they can pull it off?
I know that 2017 is way too early. I was thinking about a new rotary "in a few years", perhaps 2020 or thereabouts.
As far as showing the Rx-vision just to get people to talk about Mazda, the Rx-vision won several prizes due to its design. They could have built the same concept without any rotary reference to it and they would have gotten the same attention.
So the question remains: why release such a pro-rotary concept if they know that nothing will come from it?
First picture is the Shinari Concept to show off the Kodo design, later evolved to Takeri, which is what Mazda 6 is based on. So for sure, new RX (if exist) won't look like that.
Second picture is RX-vision, if anything, the future RX will follow this design language. Why build RX-vision? Just to show off and generate public interest, all manufacturers have done this in the past. Just like why build ONE Furai and only get killed by Top Gear... OKAY... I am ranting off...
3rd and 4th are photochop. These things has been popping up all over the internet.
I think the future RX will exist in form of Hybrid or range extender like NotAPreppie mentioned.
There is also RX hydrogen, the benefit of running both regular gas and hydrogen option at a flip of switch, so if hydrogen ever become mainstream in the next 20 years (which Toyota is pushing for Hydrogen rather than EV), then we might see it in that form or similar.
One thing to keep in mind is Auto manufacturers have Corporate emission and other government BS that they have to worry about, so for each high CO2 emission vehicle they build, they have to build so many efficient vehicle to offset and maintain the balance. So as tougher emission is set by the governments, the harder it is for any auto manufacturer to build higher emission of vehicle.
"Mazda has no plans to add battery-electric variants across its product line, the publication says, citing comments from Mazda North America CEO Masahiro Moro. So far, the dependence on Skyactiv has worked well, as Mazda was the second automaker - after electric-vehicle maker Tesla Motors – to meet the US fuel-economy mandate of 34.1 miles per gallon for 2016."
GT-R can exist because Nissan has Leaf and other hybrids in the line up, Toyota/Lexus can build V8 vehicles cars for the same reason.
Mazda has no EV or hybrids in regular line up in the world to offset the emission, EV and hybrids exist in Japan line up only. The most efficient Mazda was Mazda 2 and that is now Toyota iA in US, so I don't even think we will see Mazda 2 in US. There is not even diesel in the US line up and we already learn Skyactiv-D is very efficient and powerful.
