Stock Air Intake Box question
I was wondering if somebody could elaborate on what this is on the intake box, and if it is possible to delete the vacuum hose that goes to the intake manifold. The reason being I want to just make a custom one.

ohh okay cool, Yea I already took that **** out haha. And what about the other connection on the air box, do you know what that is? It splits on the harness with the maf sensor and connects to the air box?

Water Foul
Extraneous noise and loss of power? The RX-8 already has a very good cold air intake.
The green line is ambient air temp. The red line is intake air temp.

I don't recall seeing this on my 4 port auto, is it 6 port specific? I would assume that at higher RPM the additional intake opens to aid top end power. Not really required when the auto shifts for you.

I didn't bother to put my VFAD back on after removing it to do some work. Turns out that was a really bad idea. Ambient temps for this run were around 85F. Intake temps went as high as 145F. Thats 60F higher than ambient! With the VFAD in place, intake and ambient temps are very close when running on track (I get similar results to Steve). It is only when sitting still that intake temps rise. So... if you do remove it, make sure your intake draws air from in front of the radiator, and there is no path for it to pick up air from behind the radiator.

I saw that my Brilliant Black 04 was missing the VFAD. Likely damaged and never put back on when it was wrecked before I bought it. I have a couple on the shelf and I'm going to toss one in just to be on the safe side. If it does help stabilize air intake temps then its a really good thing to have in place and working correctly.

I have stock intake and don't really feel spending $$ on buying one when I can achieve similar effect with material sourced from home depot :-). similar approach on the exhaust if I can make it work with oem muffler mod.
forcing some fresh air into airbox can be beneficial for track use.
I will probably go with larger single flexible hose and make sure it seals nicely with stock airbox.
