I feel like they pulled an audi with this one. The old design was so good, they didn't appear to want to shake it up to much. I'm ok with this.
Disappointed that there was no 2.5t option in the new model.
Looks good though!
Maybe seeing the new one next to the old one will help me see the differences. The front end looks different, but the rest of the body doesn't really seem to look very different.
Looks incredible! I'm loving it and the fact they didn't stray too far away from the kodo design, it does feel like an improvement and not a leap to a new design concept. I read that diesels are coming for the CX-5 and the Mazda 6 to the US.
The lady and I just picked up the 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature and just am impressed by how upscale it felt even to her old 2014 Mazda 6 GT. Everything to me feels pretty upscale though coming from the 7, 8 and MS6. Lol.
Hiroshima, JAPAN--Mazda Motor Corporation announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show
today it will offer the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine in the all-new Mazda
CX-5 for North America from the second half of 2017. It will be Mazda's first
diesel engine model in the North American market.
The 1.5l SA-D is relatively new here with the CX-3 diesel (less than 6 months)..
The 2.2 in Mazda 3, 6 and CX-5 has been somewhat of a nightmare..
Particularly the earlier versions.... Oil Level rising due to fuel washing past piston rings then into the oil pan.
Warning lamps going off.
Camshaft and rocker arms cutting out because of oil quality degradation.
Oil pumps stuffed.
Turbo's stuffed.
Remember they are $3-4000 more than SA-G (Gasoline).
Mazda 3 diesel sales slowed so much they stopped importing them into Australia.
The PCM monitors everything from Engine Oil Warnings for Oil Pressure drop, which equals an oil change is needed, Oil Level in sump or oil pan.
So many warnings and DTC's it is a servicing nightmare and cost.
Even this month (November) a new TSB concerning customers complaining about Oil Warning lights on dashboard, new Firmware logic flashing.
Oil Maintenance Monitor updating...it goes on and on and on.
Let alone all sorts of things happening if owner ignores PCM Oil Change Warnings to the point PCM will put car into 'safe mode' until oil data is reset.
Have a look at that Mazda Dealership in video (yes it is about 5 years ago) but the 'approved' colour scheme first makes me want to puke (corporate Dealer design plan done/approved by the useless sacked O'Sullivan), let alone the salesperson, car buyer and desk and set up crammed into a wall and car.
It looks and is hicksville (yee haw), circa 1969.
As for the Kogia video. I just don't see Diesels in US being any sort of saviour for Mazda in NA.
They must have a V6 (petrol option) in Mazda 6 and CX-9.
I dig Mazda but the Japanese are so PIG HEADED when it comes to their inflexible strategies, they just don't listen enough and are too dictatorial.
On a side note, for the first time here, Mazda SUV's in 2016 have equalled the sales of traditional Sedans/Hatches/Sports, like Mazda 2,3,6, MX-5.
Next year the CX-3,5,9 will outsell them all, scary.
Most buyers here in the US don't care what the dealership looks like, when it comes to a cheap car. They just want to buy a cheap car. If you're not going to sell them a car for cheap, and make them feel like they got a bargain, they are going to go to the next dealer down the street and buy a car there.
That's how Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep has stayed in business for so long.
That's why the Ford F-150 stays the #1 selling vehicle in the US year after year after year.
Its why the Toyota Camry stays the #1 selling car in the US nearly every year.
A fancy looking dealership only matters to premium car buyers.
Lexus, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW.
Mazda is not a premium car brand. They want to be, but they refuse to actually make a product that fully fits and competes in that category, because they refuse to build a more powerful engine.
And also, when you walk into a Porsche, Mercedes, or Lexus dealer, do you know what you can do? You can get a discount on a car if you buy one. You try and get a Mazda dealer to give you a discount, and they cry and whine.
Mazda needs to decide what market they are competing in, and make products for that market. This half upscale and half entry level thing is just hurting their ability to sell cars.
And honestly, the whole point of selling the Diesel cars is to increase their fuel efficiency ratings without having to switch over to hybrids and electric cars as quickly. No other reason. Their fuel economy numbers have been going backwards due to the testing changes. Diesel is an easy way to raise their fleet numbers, with the CX-5 being their #1 selling vehicle in the US.
Oh yeah - The Scion iA outsold the Mazda CX-3 again last month - 1684 vs 1355.
A brilliant decision to not sell the Mazda 2 here in the US. No one wants to buy small cars, these morons say. No, you idiots just don't want to sell small cars, because you make more profit on suv sales instead.
And yet, if they really wanted to make profit hand over fist, all they have to do is sell a pickup truck. Yet they refuse.
And you and Mazda wonders why they can't sell cars here in the US.
Neither of you understand the US market, because you don't understand Americans.
Rubbish, most buyers don't care what a Dealership looks like....according to who, you...lol.
Funny how the same made cars are rated differently by customers in different countries, including Europe....its a big world outside.
They are rated differently because they are treated differently at before and after-sales.
How they are repaired after-sales...that is what CSI is.
So you think the customer/buyer does not care what a Dealership looks like and their 'Experience' when spending their hard earned going into one to get their car Serviced?, so if it looks like **** and filthy dirty, poorly managed, it is OK by you, they expect it.
If they get crap service while under new car warranty that is OK because it is a cheap car...yeah right.
If they have DRW time and time again they the customer does not mind because it is a cheap new car. Why again, DRW ratio is very poor in USA (only slightly better than Russia/China) than anywhere else for Mazda because so many of the Dealers are repair incompetents, 1.9 times higher the cost per car average than then next worst Mazda Distributor....the repair attitude is to throw a new part on without making certain the problem is that actually that part or assembly.
I participate in many forums and have a fair idea on how it works and what the customer says about their buying, service experience and repair issues....
Customer comes back with same faults and the Dealer repeats the process, yeah great.
Mazda (I take it you are referring to Mazda ) fuel economy 'ratings' are highest (the best) than any other car brand in the USA for the past two years, yes the rating method has changed, but so it has for every other brand in US.....so.
Diesel entry for Mazda was the intention to always have SA-D's back in 2013 and have achieved best FER without Diesels in NA.
Mazda are conservative when it comes to their own advertised Fuel Economy Ratings, unlike some, like the Korean Hyundai/Kia who were recently heavily fined in USA for overstating/advertising theirs, and paid back some whining US customers who don't care about cheap cars. Have not heard Mazda getting fined.
Toyota sales are somewhat irrelevant, what is there, 4 times the number of NA Toyota Dealers, and an huge market share, so they should sell more.
CX-3 sales here were around 1300 last month, so yeah the US sales are very weak.
High margins means high discounts, if your product sells well there is no need to discount, that perception and fact is the same worldwide, demand/supply.
Mazda stated years ago that they want to move into more premium end, and have achieved that in most places around the globe, I guess that is why they are having record sales everywhere except NA.
Read countless reviews from most English speaking countries and all have said Mazda has moved up market, are better finished, more kit (accessories), more included safety features than other brands, including some 'premiums' who charge extra.
Yes perception can be everything, a recent local TV car show here did a 7 seater blind test with new CX-9, Lexus, BMW, Hyundai, Audi, Toyota, and Nissan (cant remember the models, sorry) they removed all the identification badges and asked 7 people who likes cars but were not that clued up to remember a brands known image.
After going on a hilly, twisty, freeway, dirt roads, slalom water course and semi rough terrain @ about 2 hours of use each and various speeds over a weekend, they rated the vehicles out of a check point sheet with 107 questions, ID was by the colour of car as each one was also different colour (only way to identify), the BMW just pipped out the Mazda (because of engine power), with the Hyundai in a surprise third, cant remember the others exactly, but was very surprising, and when the models were revealed, all were shocked at just how good the CX-9 was inside and out...I will see if I can get a copy.
It was interesting as was something different and done by real public and not just motoring journalist.
But yeah, Mazda needs a powerful engine, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the Diesels, they are great, but the reliability/servicing costs is a concern for me as the US are harder on cars than we Aussies, I just don't know if they will stand up to it.
Everything has a warning light or sensor and IMO are too sensitive with CELs.
Everything has a warning light or sensor and IMO are too sensitive with CELs.
THIS is what I'm worried about.
I've had my BMW X3 for about 8 years now and never once had a warning light come on.
Last thing I need is to buy a NEWER car and yet have the damn display lighting up like a christmas tree all the time.
Curious to see the driving impressions on the CX-5 in a few months once it starts showing up state-side.
that'll give us an idea as to whether the extra torque in the diesel will be worth the possible headaches and $$$
