They know cat converters and some specific applications, but not necessarily the details regarding rotary engines or their needs. That's one of the reasons this forum exists. They likely just looked at the displacement without understanding what was already brought up in one of my earlier posts. They should be fine temperature wise. I would strongly encourage you to go larger whenever possible. I wouldn't go smaller than the one Steve bought unless you are on a strict budget. For all out performance I recommend larger ... in either case unless you intend to keep the car for a long period you might think twice about making the investment in one. These are the best, but do you need the best?
team knows what he is talking about
I custom made 1 with hjs couple years ago, much BIGGER than this 1, it's been DD in 1 of the RX8 here, been what 3-4 yrs no issues whatsoever, and it pass MOT(emission testing) with flying colors, it also has 90% flow, Euro 5(now Euro 6) emission.
but yeah, do you need the best? that's the question.
I have looked through the different options. Catless is stinky and not bumper-paint-friendly. S2 OEM is hideously expensive. The only cheap one that's said to work is the Magnaflow 59959, but there doesn't seem to be any active members that can provide any feedbacks for that one.
I think what I picked is enough for me. I do plan on bringing the car to some AutoX events next year.
Charles just finished the combo and shipped it out. Can't wait for it to get here.

Haha, I put my super-size cocktail shaker up for sale the other day on the forum because I’m modifying the car for a higher preparation non-emissions race class now. I’m also am in the process of doing the header modification we talked about several years ago using a 2”/50mm version from Leg Motorsport.

The pipe looks great, but there is this one little weird thing I have noticed. There is this dirt-like stuff in the cat. I mean, the cat wouldn't come pre-clogged, but I am just wondering if I need to clean it out before putting it on.
unknown: which cat did BHR put on? (I can't remember off the top of my head what Ray uses for the "catted" option) I saw mention of a Magnaflow earlier but wasn't sure if that's what we're looking at in your pic.
I'm with Team, can we get a side profile shot of it?
Well it’s hard to tell looking at pictures. The weld on the interior seems a bit rough compared to the outside, no biggie though.
Everything is done by BHR, as I drop shipped the cat to Charles.
Overall it's not bad, but the cat does look strange.
I contacted Charles and will see his response.
I asked someone at my work(who worked on cars before) and he said it might just be imperfection in the production of the cat. I will take it to a shop tomorrow and ask their opinions, too.
Edit: Did a bit of research. What my coworker suggested was that the cat was dipped in something, and there were some bubbles that didn't pop. Sorta like when you dip a screen in water, and you have some holes with bubbles over them. I found out that some metallic cats do get dipped in a liquid ceramic, so that's probably what that stuff is. Just an educated guess.

Well I’ve only had direct experience with the motorsport cats and they were always clean as a whistle. I suppose that means you didn’t get to receive and inspect it before the installation.
Email this guy, he handles technical support for the HJS tuning cats

Got mine installed by an exhaust shop today. Yeah, I could do it myself, but it would take too long and it would be too much effort.
I love it so far. I took it out for a spin, and my gas mileage has improved quite a bit(btw, my old cat had been killing my gas mileage recently). There is almost no stank, so that's great.
I will see what happens down the road. My initial impression has been good.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think UJ might be a poser hoser or something.
The thing is, I have tried inspecting the cat myself(with a bit of help from grandpa as well). It was a very frustrating experience with us ending up breaking some parts. With the limited tools I have, it really wasn't something I want to attempt again.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that it's the pissing rain season in BC again, and my landlord still hasn't cleaned out the garage.
Anyways, a small hiccup: turns out, there was a small leak around where the header meets the cat. The car had a slight farty noise along with the bassy tone, and I was smelling dirty exhaust in the cabin when the car was stopped. Went back to the exhaust shop, showed them the noise, and they confirmed there was a small leak. They fixed it for me and that should be the end of this.
Time for a new problem: what should I do with my old cat? Seems like it was clogging up(doesn't look like it), and we don't have emission tests in Canada. Shipping this thing would cost too much anyways.
If it is in good condition, an S2 cat is worth $500 to $600 used, depending on condition and mileage. You can tell if it is partially clogged by shoving a small flashlight up its butt and peering through the honeycomb. If you can manipulate it to see light everywhere, it is not clogging.

Second that it is worth something as SD says above. Sell on the board if you do not wish to keep. It also adds value to the car if you keep and sell with the car if the buyer is in an areas of the USofA that has submission oops emissions testing.
