Who knows what they are doing or whose car it is. I did find this pic though which shows some telemetry hardware, slotted rotors, no passenger seat, and a roll cage. But that is nothing out of the normal of any track rat.
Got to agree with that as Spirit R's were never sold in UK (RHD) or Europe, and this RHD has the domestic Grey Painted* alloys (base model) as the top of range Sprit R's had the gold alloys. And yes so what it has a aftermarket Grille (front nose), we could guess as to 'why', will allow for better cooling and ducts than the OEM and perhaps it throws off that it may be a 'private' owner just going for a cruise in the Expensive to import Japan Right Hand Drive which never came with LHD Zenons (road rule pass #1) or the emission pass #2.....but why would anyone spend over $5000+ labor just for a few laps to get this car to pass local German law.
*Got the Spirit R Brochure somewhere with the range of SR Wheels.....only IF I can find it.. Grrrr.
So I just listened to the clip again and found a video of a stock RX-8 flyby to compare, this time with a set of good headphones.
The "mule" sounds a bit different compared to the stock RX-8, but again, could just be the differences between recording devices.
It could be either way. Again, really wondering what those red pipes are and where the intercooler is if the next rotary is turbocharged(given that Mazda patented a turbo rotary).
Another point I think I should make at this point:
Yes, I saw the Spirit R badge on the car. Now, assuming this is just "some dude's" car, then why mod a Spirit R? There are only 1000 of them in the world, and they are worth a lot of money if kept stock. So if someone can get their hands on one, why mod it like that? Why not just get any other S2(or even better, S1) to mod it?
The Spirit R FD RX-7 I saw a while ago was completely stock save for maybe the wheels(which don't matter much).
That expands to a lot of things. Ever heard of the golden Nintendo World Championship carts? Pretty useless, but rare AF. One got sold for $100k. Even the gray ones(still rare, just not as rare) go for $15k, all for a pretty functionally pointless video game cart.
And what about Ford Model T? Yeah, definitely worth $10k+ for all the performance it has, right?
Call it more money than sense, but rarity makes anything valuable.
Modding a Spirit R like that from an individual is the equivalent of getting your hand on one of Vincent van Gogh's paintings and drawing on it.

I am not sure how much "a lot" is, probably because Spirit R RX-8s are rare and don't get sold very often, and I would imagine they are sold at auctions where people bid on them, so anything goes.
What makes you think they are not worth a lot of money? Performance? These cars spend most of their time in a garage anyway.
Spirit R's are daily driven in most places, there are a few members from other markets here with them. And Spirit R parts pop up fairly often as well so they are being wrecked as well. I have no idea why you think they are special garage queens.
Well the car is sexy indeed, I’m just not so sure that is the next rotary car. The hood looks big enough to fit an entire circus. Let alone a v12. The car also looks big itself. I just hope they are keeping a smaller rotary host under wraps until they are ready to confirm production of a rx-concept.
"The hood is too long. The lights are too small. The mirrors are too small. Rubber band tires. Blah blah blah".
Someone tell me why people don't understand the definition of "concept". A concept simply exaggerates aesthetic features to generate an engaging design image/philosophy to look forward to.
A concept is an opinion materialized. Now I’m not sure how much of an influence my opinion is going to change the wheel base from a bus to a go cart. I think the bigger question here is , do we understand the concept of an opinion?
