Stop Tailgating, It Only Makes Traffic Jams Worse
Could this ever work with the mindset of most drivers ?

Well, we also have factors like Prius(or Toyota in general) drivers.
I swear, everyone in Victoria accelerates way too slowly. You have to wait at least 10 seconds after the light turns green to get moving if you are behind a couple of cars. If I am in the lead, I always accelerated faster than the other cars as well, even with light throttle input. May consider teaching people "green light = floor it when it's clear".
In a MT, you normally don't tailgate. You usually just stay in one spot unless the gap is really big - it's easier on your leg and clutch.

What makes things worse, and a big contributor to tailgating is, people not following basic rules of the road regarding the 'passing' lane.
Idk about all states, but in Kansas & Missouri, the law says the left lane is for passing ONLY, and also that impeding traffic in the left lane is illegal.
If people would obey these laws, I'd bet there would be a huge dropoff in road rage cases.
To compound it, many are also texting or looking at their phones while impeding traffic.

Imo the biggest problem is people who hang back 30 car lengths because they’re either scared they can’t stop quickly at 20 mph from never being trained properly or they would rather f around on their phone and not have to worry about doing same not watching. Semi in the middle or left lane is as bad or worse. They should be forced right lanes only.
